The ENHYPEN members were gathered in their practice room, laughter filling the air as they teased Jake about a girl from another K-pop group, known for her talent and charm. Over the past few weeks, Jake's mentions of her had caught their attention, and the members were convinced he had a crush.
"Jake, you seem to mention her in every conversation," Heeseung said, raising an eyebrow. "You sure you don't have a little crush?"
"Yeah, you keep watching all her performances!" Sunoo chimed in, nudging Jake with a grin. "Just admit it!"
Jake felt his face heat up. "Come on, guys, it's not like that," he mumbled, trying to wave them off. But his voice didn't quite have the conviction he hoped for, and that only fueled their teasing.
From the corner, Sunghoon sat quietly, his jaw clenched as he watched Jake's flustered reaction. He tried to brush it off as harmless teasing, but every mention of that girl seemed to light a fire in his chest. His friends kept laughing and teasing Jake, blissfully unaware of the jealousy slowly building within Sunghoon. For days now, he'd been trying to suppress the feelings, but they simmered beneath the surface.
That evening, the group decided to visit a local carnival to unwind after practice. The sky was a rich shade of indigo, dotted with stars, as they arrived at the bustling carnival. The air was thick with the scents of street food, cotton candy, and excitement, and the vibrant lights cast a warm glow over the crowd.
They wandered around, playing games, sampling food, and challenging each other to silly dares. But no matter what they did, the topic of Jake's "crush" kept popping up, stoking Sunghoon's jealousy even more. Every time someone made a comment, he felt his control slipping just a bit further.
As they reached the Ferris wheel, Sunghoon could no longer stay silent. The conversation had circled back to Jake's mystery girl, and everyone was laughing at the idea of Jake "needing advice" on how to confess his feelings.
"You know," Sunghoon said abruptly, his voice sharp, "maybe you should stop teasing him about this so-called crush. It's not that big of a deal."
The sudden change in Sunghoon's tone surprised everyone. Jake blinked, taken aback. "Sunghoon, it's okay, really. I can handle it," he said, trying to ease the tension.
But Sunghoon wasn't finished. "No, Jake, it's not fine. They're acting like it's some huge thing, and it's... it's ridiculous." His voice wavered with barely concealed frustration. He didn't want to blow up at his friends, but he couldn't stand the idea of Jake possibly liking someone else, even if the teasing was all in good fun.
The other members exchanged glances, sensing that there was something deeper going on.
"Sunghoon," Niki ventured, "are you... alright?"
Sunghoon turned away, struggling to keep his emotions in check. The twinkling lights of the carnival reflected in his eyes, making it hard for Jake to read his expression.
Jake took a step closer, feeling a strange ache at seeing Sunghoon so upset. "Hey... What's wrong?"
Sunghoon hesitated, finally letting out a sigh. "It's just... all this talk about you and some other girl," he began, his voice quiet and a bit shaky. "It's been driving me crazy, Jake."
Jake's eyes widened. "Wait, what?"
Sunghoon took a breath, steadying himself. "I can't stand hearing about you liking someone else," he admitted, his cheeks turning pink. "Because, honestly... I like you. More than a friend should."
A stunned silence fell over the group. Jake's heart raced, and he felt his face heat up. He had never expected Sunghoon to confess like this.
"Sunghoon," Jake whispered, his voice filled with a mixture of surprise and warmth. "I had no idea..."
The other members, finally catching on, glanced at each other and took a few steps back, giving them a moment of privacy.
Sunghoon's gaze softened as he met Jake's eyes. "It's okay if you don't feel the same way, Jake," he murmured. "I just couldn't keep it to myself anymore. Hearing everyone joke about you and someone else... it just got to me."
Jake smiled, his heart racing. "You should've told me sooner, you know," he said softly. "Maybe then we could've avoided all this teasing."
Sunghoon's eyes widened. "Wait... are you saying...?"
"I feel the same," Jake admitted, his voice barely above a whisper. "I just didn't know you'd feel that way about me."
Sunghoon's face lit up with relief and joy, and he let out a breath he hadn't realized he'd been holding. Jake gave him a small, playful shove. "Guess I'll have to stop talking about other people then, huh?"
Sunghoon laughed, finally relaxing as the tension between them melted away. "Yeah, I'd appreciate that."
From a few feet away, the other members looked on, smirking as they pieced together what had just happened.
"Guess Jake's got a different crush now," Sunoo whispered with a grin.
"Finally," Heeseung muttered, giving Niki a high five. "It took them long enough."
Jake and Sunghoon, hearing their friends' comments, rolled their eyes but couldn't help smiling. The teasing had brought out something they'd both kept hidden, and as they wandered through the carnival together, their hands brushing, they felt an unspoken bond strengthen between them.
The night air was filled with laughter and music as they walked side by side, the Ferris wheel spinning in the background. Jake didn't need to confess his feelings to anyone else, because he had everything he needed right beside him.
