yunjin's pov —
the world around me blurred as i stared at giselle's text, her words a taunting reminder that no matter where i went, she was always there—waiting, watching, and knowing too much. my thumb hovered over the screen, pulse hammering in my ears as i tried to steady my breathing, to collect the swarm of thoughts racing through my mind. every muscle in my body tensed, the urge to confront her bubbling beneath my skin, impossible to ignore.
finally, without overthinking it, i pressed "call."
the dial tone barely had time to hum before she picked up, her voice dripping with a sickeningly sweet familiarity.
"yunjin," she cooed, like she'd been expecting me, as if she'd been waiting for me to reach out. "i didn't expect a call so soon."
"what the fuck is your problem, giselle?" the words came out sharp, my voice trembling slightly from the adrenaline flooding my veins. "why are you watching me? what do you want from me? are you obsessed with me or something?"
her silence on the other end stretched uncomfortably, and for a moment, i wondered if she'd hang up. but then she laughed softly, that strange, unsettling laugh that had begun to make my skin crawl.
"obsessed? that's a strong word," she murmured. "i'm just... interested. like any good friend would be."
"friends?" i scoffed, the anger rising in my chest. "this—whatever you're doing—isn't friendship, giselle. you're trying to mess with me, and i don't understand why."
a beat of silence, then her voice softened, a strange edge slipping into her tone. "i'm looking out for you, yunjin. i've seen what chaewon did to you. i don't want to see you hurt again."
"that's not your decision to make," i shot back, feeling my frustration rising. "chaewon and i... whatever happened between us is none of your business."
"isn't it, though?" she asked, her voice low, almost amused. "you tell me you're not talking to her, but i know better. i see the way you look at her, like she's the only one who matters. but she left you, didn't she? she broke your heart. and you're just going to let her do it again?"
i felt a flash of anger. "why do you care so much? why can't you just leave it alone?"
her answer came quicker than i expected. "because i can't stand to see you with her." her voice had dropped to a whisper, and the intensity of it caught me off guard. "you deserve someone who actually sees you, who would never look away... who would never leave."
my heart sank as the weight of her words hit me. her fixation, her questions, the way she hovered—it was all suddenly terrifyingly clear.
"giselle..." i tried to steady myself, my voice barely above a whisper. "this... whatever you're trying to do—it's not right."
"not right?" she echoed, an eerie calm in her voice. "or just not what you wanted to hear?"
my grip tightened around my phone, feeling like i was on the edge of something i couldn't pull back from. "you need to stay away from me, giselle," i said, my tone as firm as i could manage. "whatever you think this is, it's not. i care about chaewon, and nothing you do is going to change that."
a pause. then her voice dropped, a quiet, controlled anger slipping through. "you don't understand, yunjin. you'll see. chaewon's going to hurt you again, and i'll be the one who's here to pick up the pieces when she does."
the line clicked, going dead before i could say another word. i dropped the phone onto my bed, the silence pressing down on me.
i felt a chill run through me, and for the first time, a real sense of dread coiled in my stomach.
