Chapter 3.

With the sun halfway in the sky, Garrett and Mary had finally gotten to the end on the forest when a decaying body of a man was laying face-down in the dirt. The smell of death surrounded them. Garret noticed a crossbow in the dead man's hands. The boy moved in closer to the man and flipped him over. The sight was traumatizing. Maggots squirmed from his empty eye sockets, his jaw was halfway unhinged and you could hear the flies move away in a loud din away from their meal for their growing children. "What the... What the hell happened to him?.." Mary said with her hands covering her nose. Garrett examined the man and noticed a rusty blooded knife lodged into his heart. He pulled it out and handed it to Mary and she somewhat winced as she took hold of it. He picked up the crossbow and turned the rotted man over once more and grabbed a bag the was attached to his back. It was empty surprisingly, but Garrett didn't care he got a fancy new weapon and that's what he cared about at the moment. But right before they kept moving on he stepped onto something the felt like a bone. It was a... demon horn. "How in the hell...?" But before he could finish his thought energy had gathered into a ball and went into the crossbow, knocking Garrett over. Mary helped him up and they both noticed that set inside in the crossbow a flaming arrow sat. ready to be launched into its nest kill. "I've had one of these before.." Mary said as she walked over to pick it up. She handed it to Garrett and carried on to what she was saying. "Its a demon crossbow. It harnesses the heat energy around it and creates an arrow that is aflame." she smiled and pulled him to the exit to the forest. He couldn't wait to use it on the imps that they were coming up to.

Kat and Kota had finally gotten to the edge of the forest. Kat turned around to examine the endless trail that that her and her partner had trailed upon for two days almost. It looked as if it was starting to get foggy. "Thank god we finally got out of that hell hole.." they walked somewhat out a good few yards away from the forest's end and the suddenly Kota had noticed that there were two figures walking along the south side of them. He nudged kat and had told her to look. He got out his binoculars and focused on them. "Are they the living dead of something..?" she had asked. He shook his head and looked over at her. "they're travelers like us, and I think that they might even be on the same journey we're on. C'mon Kat!" He started running tward the unknown people and she sprinted after him after she face palmed herself and said "dumbass.. this may be the biggest mistake you have ever made so far in our time together."

"Who in the hell are you people and that do you want from us?" mary said drawing her bowie knife at them. The somewhat short boy flinched and slowly put his hands up. "We mean you no harm madam, we only want to join you and obviously your partner's journey. Im kota and this is Kat." she set out his small little shaking hand out to her and she shook it nodding in approval of him. "Im mary and this is garrett." She looked over at garrett, and he smiled at her. "Nice to meet you two." he said before he bowed.

They finally had finally gotten to the hideaway. I was blazing and there was fire everywhere. Lava trickled down from the sides of the cave that they were in and suddenly mary pulled out a book. "Mary, this is not a good time for reading books we ha-" Garrett was stopped with a leather glove incased hand to his mouth. "I you would like to know hun, this is a spell book. I got it out to but us in enclose shield to keep our bodies cool so that we don't over heat in here." she said flipping the pages. Garrett watched all the pages that flew by when suddenly he say a crow on one, he was oddly attracted to the spell on that page and had to see how to do it. "Maryyyy.. Can I please look at the spell book, only to do one spell. Pleaseeee?" Garret asked pleadingly. Kota chuckled in the background and kat slightly laughed to herself. "Fine." Mary handed him the book and he went to the crow summoning spell, it said that once you create this spell crows will come and devour your enemies. But before he could try it out, a small amount of imps appeared with horns.

They blew them in seconds and it made a deafening sound then a dark devilish voice arose from a small lengths deep into the cave. "VISITORSSSSS? I LOVE HAVINGG VISITORSSSS. COME OUTT COME OUTTT WHEREEE EVER YOU AREE VISITORSSS..." Kota shuddered at the voce and kat readied her bow. "Garrett give me the spell book now before... before we all-..." Before mary could finish her sentence she had fell to the ground but garrett caught her before she hit the ground. He shook her and called her name but no answer was given. He swung her over his shoulder and readied his crossbow. But then a sudden out burst came from kota when the king of the fire imps appeared. "The only way we and defeat him is with his own power source, Fire! " "How the hell are we going to kill it with fire?!" kat yelled at him. The both looked over at Garrett, he nodded and counted down. "Three!...Two!...Onee!!!" Kat and kota charged at the smaller imps when Garrett aimed at the king's heart. It was about to swing its tail over to hit him but then he shot the fire arrow at the giant and several  arrows splurged from the single one and went right though its chest. Its heart shriveled up and when that happened garrett summoned his crows to consume the left over imps. 

the four travelers escaped from the hideaway and settled down half a mile away. Mary had not awakened when they had set up camp. They were all smudged with soot and all had a cough. At dawn they would arise and start the third part of their journey, to go to the field of weakness and possession.
