It was the summer holidays and for Caitlyn that meant NO "plastics" and ultimately she would have 6 whole weeks of happiness before the next school year and relentless bullying.
Every year Caitlyn and her family would go to Spain for a few weeks in their villa but this year was different.
"Caitlyn you need to pack your suitcase, we're going to CHICAGO!" screamed caitlyn's mother Bunny.
"Chicago? as in the state in America" Caitlyn couldn't comprehend this huge change in her routine, because she was used to going to Spain, so why was she going to Chicago.
The feelings of anxiety and upset fuelled her body, Bunny could see that her daughter was becoming distressed and pulled Caitlyn into an embrace, explaining to her that they were staying in her granddads friends house in Chicago and that despite the polar vortex she would enjoy it.
A few days later they woke up at 4 am to get to the airport in time, 3 hours later that arrived at the airport. Bunny and Caitlyn had to check in and have their bags checked by security but all was fine. And they boarded the plane, Caitlyn enjoyed traveling in airplanes because the views from the window were amazing.
Several hours passed before a voice called over the speaker
"ladies and gentlemen this has been a wonderful flight, buckle up we are preparing to land"
Caitlyn scrambled to belt up because she thought that if she didn't belt up straight away, death was imminent. The plane began to descend and Caitlyn gripped onto the armrests, her knuckles turning white. Then a loud bang and the plane screeched to a halt. With that Caitlyn and Bunny disembarked the plane, to check in and to collect their bags.
Once they had collected their bags they were about to leave, when Caitlyn dropped her bags and ran. With immediate confusion Bunny started to call Caitlyn with no reply, this was not uncommon for Caitlyn to bolt when the situation became too much for her, and usually she would return in an hour.
Caitlyn's mind was screaming "RUN" and she followed she sprinted through the exit almost mowing down a few innocent people in the process.
Her lungs were screaming, her legs were burning, nonetheless she kept running. After a while she slowed to find a little park and in the middle was a HUGE tree, Caitlyn was immediately attracted to it and sat down leaning against it.
It was early morning in Chicago , very few people around. With the realisation of what she had just done she burst into tears. A few people were walking and running through the park, they passed her without looking twice.
Through her tear covered hands Caitlyn saw a woman approaching her, Caitlyn continued to cry she then heard
"are you okay?"
She looked up to locate the owner of the voice, when she saw the woman dressed in running gear, sweat glistening on her fore head and her hair scraped into a messy bun, Caitlyn didn't look in the woman's eyes because ever since she could remember, eyes scared her , there was something about them.
Caitlyn looked at the women's ears to have a look at her face, the woman clearly young was very pretty she had a strong defined face but not scary almost friendly and welcoming, a small nose and a mouth filled with the straightest pearly white teeth you have ever seen.
Still stunned by the beauty of this woman, Caitlyn had forgotten the question the woman had asked. The woman sat down next to Caitlyn and spoke again
"what's your name?"
Caitlyn turned to the woman and in a very strong British accent replied " Caitlyn" the woman spoke again
"my name is Sophia pleased to meet you Caitlyn"
with that Sophia outstretched her hand to initiate a handshake, Caitlyn followed suit
"why are you crying?"
Caitlyn simply replied
"I'm scared" and with that Caitlyn fell into her shoulder and started crying uncontrollably and Sophia put her arms around Caitlyn and in a soothing voice said
"it's ok you are safe now"
her hand moving in circles on Caitlyn's back. 10 minutes later Caitlyn's uncontrollable crying fit had stopped and Sophia said
"let me take you home".
