Emily waited anxiously in the hospital corridor, her heart pounding with fear and hope. She had managed to flag down a passing car and had the driver call the police. Now, she could only pray that Mingyu would pull through.

The minutes felt like hours as she paced back and forth, her mind replaying the harrowing events. She couldn't shake the image of Mingyu being shot, the look of determination in his eyes as he fought to protect her.

Finally, a doctor emerged from the operating room, his expression serious but not grim. "Miss Carter?" he asked.

Emily rushed forward. "Yes, that's me. How is he? How's Mingyu?"

The doctor gave a reassuring nod. "He's stable. The bullet missed any major organs, and we were able to stop the bleeding. He'll need time to recover, but he should be fine."

Relief flooded through Emily, and she felt tears welling up in her eyes. "Thank you, doctor. Can I see him?"

"He's resting now, but you can sit with him," the doctor replied, leading her to Mingyu's room.

As she entered the room, Emily's heart ached at the sight of Mingyu lying in the hospital bed, his face pale and drawn. She pulled a chair close to his bedside and gently took his hand, her own trembling.

"Mingyu," she whispered, her voice thick with emotion. "You saved my life."

His eyes fluttered open, and he managed a weak smile. "I told you... I wouldn't let anything happen to you."

Emily squeezed his hand, tears streaming down her face. "I thought I'd lost you."

"You won't get rid of me that easily," Mingyu said softly, his strength slowly returning. "But we can't stop now. Davenport is still out there."

Emily nodded, her resolve hardening. "We'll bring him to justice, Mingyu. Together."
