*CRUNCH*
Lizzy froze as her boot came down on a large piece of broken glass. She'd been too mesmerized by her surroundings to actually pay attention to them and watch where she was going.
'I'msodead, I'msodead, I'msodead, I'm...' the cheerleader's thoughts stalled as she noticed her companions giving her supremely unimpressed looks.
"Everything okay, there, Lizzy?" Uzi asked, not bothering to hide the smirk on her face.
"Shut up. Some of us are still getting used to the idea of death NOT lurking around every corner out here," Lizzy grumbled as she went back to browsing the racks.
"What about this one?" Doll asked as she held up a costume set featuring a long turquoise wig, a black leotard with pink leggings, pink arm gloves and detachable purple bat wings.
Uzi opened her mouth to give her thoughts, but was beaten to the punch.
"Absolutely not," Lizzy scoffed.
"Hey!"
"Give me your best 'I'm gonna suck your soul out, then fuck it back into you' look."
"...Excuse me, the fuck did you just say?!"
"Yeah, you couldn't pull off Morrigan if you wanted to, Zi. I, on the other hand..." Lizzy made a big show of looking Uzi up and down, then hit her with bedroom eyes so intense that she stumbled back as if she had been physically struck.
"...Don't you EVER do that again," the emo girl practically whimpered, genuinely distressed by the fact that she couldn't get the blush lines off her screen.
"Aw, you're no fun," Lizzy pouted before turning to Doll, who immediately froze under her half-lidded gaze. "What do you think, Doll?"
"...Buh..."
"Thought so," Lizzy preened as she sauntered up to the Russian and plucked the costume from her limp fingers with the smuggest of smirks. "I'll take that."
It would take some tailoring; she wasn't walking around with double-d's after all. But most of her outfits were handmade anyway, so she was more than up for the challenge.
"...I'm going back out there. Away from you," Uzi said as she slowly backed out of the storage room like she was dealing with a wild animal.
"Yeah, yeah, just hurry it up would you? Because I'm one more hour away from putting you in a black dress, calling you 'Thursday' and being done with it."
Uzi flipped her the bird over her shoulder, but she had to admit Lizzy wasn't wrong. They had been wandering the mall for most of the day and had been to every clothing store it had to offer to put something together. Then they hit paydirt when they discovered that most of the stores kept their unsold Halloween stuff in the back so they would already have it for the next year. Doll found herself something, but had teleported it away before anyone could see it, and Lizzy's backpack was nearly bursting with all the different things she'd snagged. But Uzi never found anything that "clicked" for her.
If it had been up to her, she'd be spending this Halloween the same as the ones before it: holed up in her room with a playlist of hand-picked horror gems queued up. But this year she wouldn't be alone! Y'know, once she figured out how to ask her best friend to spend the night in her room without making it weird.
Then Thad asked N what he was wearing to the Halloween party. N didn't know he was even invited, just like Uzi didn't know he could produce a sound as high-pitched as the squeal he unleashed after finding out. From there, Uzi knew she was stuck. Because no matter how much he wanted to go, he wouldn't if it meant leaving her alone. Even if she managed to convince him that she would be fine and he should go enjoy himself, she knew he would knocking on her door within an hour, casually tossing out lines like "I can't enjoy myself without you", and other things that made her feel funny in ways that weren't funny...
