(０４) Hero

As the last guy goes down the residents all abruptly cheer even more, thanks and praises are thrown around, directed to the Furin students. Things like "Thank you so much!" and "You're life savers".

"Furin was a bunch of low-grade hoodlums, until 2 years ago...", you continue as your lips twitch up in a calm smile.

"Though they still do fight alot", you say looking into the distance. "Now they're loved by all and they're needed".

Sakura sweatdrops and grits his teeth and you study his facial expression. He must have a lot on his mind you conclude.

"You did great too, bud!", a man says going up to Sakura accompanied by a woman causing Sakura to turn his attention to them instead.

"Way to go out by yourself!", the woman praises joyfully.

Sakura says nothing by stare at the 2 in shock and you smile once more. He must be so confused

"Kiddo, your ankle's hurt, isn't it?", an old lady says walking up to the teenager causing his eyes to follow the source of the voice and looks down to find the grandma on her knees with a med kit, reaching out to check his ankle.

"We have to treat that", she says weakly.

Sakura shakes slightly as he looks down at the gesture, pupils dilating. "Stop!", he shouts causing everyone else's attention to turn to him.

You yourself are kinda shocked by his sudden outburst but it's not anything new or unbelievable anyway.

"Sakura", you say as you walk over to him and crouch down to level with his ankles.

You start treating his bleeding ankle and rolling up his pants slightly.

"Me and Kotoha said you were alone", you say, "but I could tell at a glance you didn't choose to be...", you continue, tone different and more softer and assuring. "I think".

"Still, the people of this town need you", you say. Now everyone's eyes are on both you and Sakura.

"Don't spout crap! I don't need anyone! I don't get involved!", he shouts aggressively but you pay no mind.

"Then why?", you ask. 2 simple words.

He goes silent.

"Why'd you bring Yama his bag?"

"Why did you save me and Kotoha?"

"You haven't given up on people", you conclude, bandaging his ankle. "And you don't have to"

"If not else, I'm not turning away from you", you promise solidly. "So how about you turn towards me?". Sakura looks up at your words.

"Do that and I'm sure... You'll be able to become what you wanted"

Sakura eyes widen at your words, shaking slightly, he looks down avoiding eye contact.

A few seconds of silence, just a few pass by. Sakura takes in your words but instead of deciding to just take it, he runs, he runs towards the direction of the crowd of residents, expertly jumping over them, heading to the 4 other Furin students who had saved him and the town.

"So delinquents are playing heroes now!? Even I can win a fight!", he yells out loud, mid air.

"What's this Bofurin crap!? This shield non-sense?!", he insults.

"It's way too damn cool!", he yells kicking one of the leader of the gang the Furin students just took out who happened to get up straight in the face making him tumble backwards and skid across the ground.

You and the other townspeople watch in shock as he lands on the ground.

You soon recover from the shock and you smile at the scene that unfolded in front of you.

This was going to get interesting. Maybe your monotone life of being the perfect joyful local townsgirl would change.
