"Don't put in for a song at karaoke if you don't know it. We've suffered enough tonight already. Alright, we'll watch some tapes tomorrow, but let's all get out of here and head to DLive's party." Coach Kidd was irritated by the loss, but he knew the team needed to be lifted up right now, not dragged down. Especially not before Derek's first time to ever host a party, being a nearly newborn adult.
Lively's party was being hosted in some currently unused space in Victory Park near the AAC. Most businesses there came and went quickly due to ridiculous rent prices and poor management of the commercial properties, so there was plenty of space for everyone.
Since this was DLive, a newborn baby, he had gone to Party City himself and spent a fortune on tacky paper plates, fake cobwebs, and foam gravestones. It was adorable, but not exactly right for an NBA party. Luckily, a few WAGs had stepped in last minute to help out, as much as it pained them to have to be the ones to save the day behind the scenes, as usual, Derek was a newborn baby and his experience had not quite caught up with his expertise.
There was hardly any "beginning" to speak of - the place filled up and the party started right away without any awkward lull at the top. Within a few short minutes, they had already welcomed over half the team and their families.
Costumes so far were as follows:
PJ as Skeeter Valentine from Doug
Gaff as Inspector Gadget
Exum and Powell as Kendall and Roman Roy
Dinwiddie as Jafar
Morris was the dad in the No Flex Zone Wing Stop commercial
Hardy was Bowser
Kleber came as Cousin from The Bear when he sings Taylor Swift in the car
Prosper was a Chicago style Glizzy
Coach Kidd as Elphaba
The Rookies came as the starters
Derek came in his Jurassic Park costume and said "clever girl" and "life finds a way" every chance he got. The vibe was immaculate, and they knew the Holy Trinity was about to arrive, delaying their entrance for drama. Everyone was pretty sure they'd come as Father, Son, Holy Ghost to further instill their legendary trifecta.
Suddenly the music stopped and someone at a live mic (that was way too hot) said "I'm Peter Cetera," and with that, a band of robot looking people that everyone previously thought were props came alive and went directly into Glory of Love.
"This must be it!" Derek screamed above the crowd. "Papi's are in the house!"
But as the song continued there was no sight of Luka, Kyrie, or Klay, despite the banger blaring through the speakers that was gassing everyone up.
They had already reached the bridge and DLive started to think he had been mistaken and his dads weren't coming after all. The mean voices in his head started chiming in and he was not yet trained on how to let them say their peace and reassure them he was in charge. The team was encouraged to engage in therapy to ensure the skills reliably outran their anxieties, but Lively was just a baby, after all.
Just when his shoulders started to drop and he felt shame and disappointment taking over, the music came to a screeching halt. A terribly offkey voice with a strange accent began singing, "Oh I leave quite an impression-"
Every WAG in the room turned on command and replied, "FIVE FEET TO BE EXACT" as if under some weird spell. But who was the singer? Derek pushed through the crowd, able to see nothing but a blonde wig.
The song changed again, even more abruptly than last time. Suddenly a different voice was heard, just as ill suited to the track, though slightly less so, singing, "I went my own way and made it, I'm your favorite reference baby," inciting more deafening screams from the WAGs. Derek could see a black wig had joined the blonde one but was still fighting hands in the air to get a good view.
The sound dropped out a final time, and this time a familiar piano intro started, dropping the track into the pre chorus. Derek heard the altered lyrics more clearly this time on a less produced song, "I'm having wicked dreams of leaving Golden State, Hear Dallas Texas, I swear it's calling me, Won't make my mama proud, it's gonna cause a scene, She sees her baby girl, I know she's gonna scream-"
Just as Derek finally pushed his way through a narrow and uncertain tunnel he found in the crowd, as he had done not long ago, on the day of his birth, he emerged in front of the stage to dee Luka, Kyrie, and Klay, dressed as Sabrina Carpenter, Charli XCX, and Chappell Roan, respectively.
"GOD WHAT HAVE YOU DONE! YOU'RE A PINK PONY GIRL! AND YOU DANCE AT THE CLUB NOW, MAMA!" Everyone screamed in unison, the volume rivaled finals games at the AAC.
"We are the Unholy Trinity! Thank you for coming to our little baby's party!" said Luka.
"This party couldn't be more perfect," Derek thought to himself, his dads smiling back at him from the stage. For the first time in a long time, he felt the familial love he had missed since he lost his mom.
In the afterglow of their entrance, the party took on a second life and began buzzing all over again. Just then, someone screamed (and not in a good way).
They all turned towards the sound, but no one could believe they saw. Standing before them was a terrifyingly convincing Lord Voldemort. He stood there and stared back at the party menacingly.
"How do they do the thing with the nose?" Luka whispered to Kai, who was busy trying to figure out who this horrifying Voldemort was. Derek also racked his brain trying to figure out who this mystery guest could be, everyone who had been invited was already there.
Gafford, taking his usual role as The Landlord, decided it was time to control and do something about this freaky intruder.
"Expelliarmus!" Gaff yelled.
The Voldemort gasped and dropped his wand, before letting out an out of character laugh. "Ayyy fam - it's Pitbull. Yo Peter Cetera - drop that track!"
"IT'S GOING DOWN
I'M YELLIN TIMBER
YOU BETTER MOVE
YOU BETTER DANCE"
"Omg Pitbull actually came! This is real life!" screamed DLive.
Luka and Kyrie looked at each other and smiled. Everything was right in the world, and everyone had forgotten that they lost to the nasty city of Houston.
