"The CEO of one of the most lucrative businesses in the country has been charged with numerous counts of fraud today..."

"Panich Inc. suffers a major fall in revenue as its stock plummets amidst allegations against the owner. Mr. Panich, the founder and CEO of Panich Inc., was placed under arrest for suspicion of funneling money to off-shore accounts with ties to criminal activity..."

"Business records reveal revenue from Mr. Panich's start-up companies appeared to come from international conglomerates with unknown affiliations. This information comes just as the judge who is overseeing the case set the former CEO's bail at a record amount not yet seen in the history of this country's legal proceedings..."

"Financial accounts run by the CEO of Panich Inc. reveal a portion of their charity funds were used as hush money to pay off former employees and numerous others in an effort to keep its criminal affiliations a secret..."

I sat up as the tv screen flashed to footage taken outside of the downtown courthouse. An eerily familiar face filled the space. My fingers clenched as they folded against the soft material of the couch cushions. Thin glasses reflected the light from the early evening sun as a hard line pulled at the edges of his lips. Next to Zee's father stood two police officers, each holding one arm as they guided him to the vehicle that waited across the street. Media personnel flocked the sidewalk, shouting as their cameras flashed, creating chaos amongst the crowd.

Even though the shot wasn't close and the movements of the cameraman were shaky at best, I still managed to catch the look I was hoping to see on the elder CEO's face.

A tightening of his jaw, so subtle yet apparent nonetheless as I watched the officers shove him into the backseat of the police vehicle. It was the only sign that any of this was affecting him-the only indication that Zee had been right.

We fucking won.

My teeth clamped down on my bottom lip, biting it gently as I watched the car speed off before finally leaving the camera shot. The reporter's voice floated through the penthouse, filling the space as I leaned back against the cushions of the couch once more.

It was a strange sensation, feeling so calm as I watched the screen.

Only a few months ago I'd sat in that quiet hospital room, filled with anxiety as I wondered where Zee had gone. If he was okay. If he was doing something I'd begged him not to-that he promised me he wouldn't.

Or rather, that he would've promised me, had it not been for the accident.

Pain erupted against the side of my head suddenly, blossoming behind my ear before spreading to the front of my skull. Dark spots began to create splotches within my vision. My breath became labored, the air suddenly feeling thick as I struggled to take a full breath.

"Hey..." My breath caught in my lungs as a warm hand found my shoulder. I blinked against the blurriness as I glanced up.

Golden flecked eyes stared down at me as a frown formed across pale pink lips. "Are you okay?"
