Chapter 17

As the afternoon sun cast a warm glow through the windows, the group sat comfortably in the living room, pleasantly full from the lunch Seokjin had prepared. Taehyung was nestled in Jungkook's lap, his small fingers weaving through Jungkook's hair in a gentle, absentminded way as Jungkook patted his back rhythmically, hoping to ease him into his afternoon nap. Taehyung's eyelids were drooping, but every now and then, he would glance up with a sleepy little smile as he felt Jungkook's comforting hand on his back.

The others couldn't help but coo softly at the sight. Hoseok reached out to gently pat Taehyung's head, while Namjoon gave Jungkook a warm smile. "You're a natural, Kookie," Namjoon said quietly, admiring the serene picture of the two of them.

Seokjin sighed with a smile. "It's hard to leave when Taetae's being so cute," he whispered, making Yoongi nod in agreement.

But as the clock moved toward the late afternoon, it was finally time for everyone to head home. They stood up one by one, gathering their jackets and giving Taehyung soft, fond goodbyes.

At first, Taehyung didn't fully realize what was happening, but when he saw Yoongi pulling on his coat and Hoseok zipping up his bag, he perked up with a worried frown, shifting in Jungkook's lap. "No go..." he mumbled, his face crumpling as he looked from one person to another.

Jimin crouched down to Taehyung's eye level, cupping his cheek with a warm smile. "Hey, baby, don't worry. They'll come back soon, okay? We'll have another big playtime really soon, I promise."

Yoongi leaned in, giving Taehyung's little hand a squeeze. "That's right, buddy. We're only a call away, okay? We'll come back and play with you in no time."

Hoseok joined in, ruffling his hair gently. "Taetae, next time we'll bring even more toys, maybe even a new car, alright?"

Taehyung nodded, his pout softening just a bit at their reassurances. Seokjin handed him Bunbun with a gentle smile, whispering, "Bunbun will be here with you, too, Taetae. He's going to help keep you company until we see each other again."

Taehyung held Bunbun close, nodding, though he still looked a little sad. "Otay... Taetae wait," he mumbled, managing a small but brave smile as he waved his everyone off.

With a chorus of "goodbyes" and promises to return soon, the group finally left, leaving Jimin, Jungkook, and Taehyung in the cozy quiet of their home. Taehyung let out a small sigh, glancing at the door where everyone had just left, his shoulders slumping a little.

Jimin noticed and scooped him up from Jungkook's lap, bouncing him gently. "Hey, don't be sad, baby. We're still here, and guess what? We're going to have so much fun together, just the three of us," he said, nuzzling his cheek to Taehyung's and making him giggle a little.

Jungkook joined in, ruffling Taehyung's hair. "Want to play a bit before nap time? Or maybe we can read you a story?" he offered, grinning as he saw Taehyung's face brighten at the mention of a story.

Taehyung nodded eagerly, his earlier sadness beginning to fade as he clutched Bunbun and settled back onto Jungkook's lap. "Stowy! Taetae wuv stowies," he whispered, making Jimin chuckle as he reached for a picture book from the nearby shelf.

Jungkook opened the book, reading aloud with an animated voice that had Taehyung giggling again. Jimin pointed out the pictures, making funny faces to match each character, which made Taehyung burst into laughter, his earlier sadness forgotten.

When the story ended, Taehyung let out a sleepy yawn, his eyes starting to flutter shut. Jungkook held him close, patting his back again. "Ready for your nap now, Taetae?"

Taehyung nodded, snuggling against Jungkook with Bunbun tucked between them, his fingers once again reaching up to toy with Jungkook's hair. Jimin smiled, leaning down to press a soft kiss on Taehyung's forehead. "Sweet dreams, little one. We'll be right here when you wake up."
