Caden has been sitting in front of the sewing machine for almost an hour. Oliver just sat on the corner of his bed, looking at the guy at work. "Man, does he ever get hungry?" he thought to himself.

"Oliver, I told you you can already start eating if you're hungry." Caden told him, with his face still towards the direction of the machine."

"Are you a psychic?" Oliver jokingly asked. "I told you, I'll eat when you're done so we could do it together."

"Suit yourself." Caden replied.

He stepped on the pedal again, rotating the coat he was sewing while looking laser-focused on the feed dog. The wooshing sounds of the needle broke the silence again, but it was the only sound that could be heard.

"Why are you so quiet?" Caden asked.

"Um. I didn't want to disturb you while you worked." he replied.

"Oh." Caden then paused. "Then, would you like to play some music then while you wait?"

"No need. That machine's kind of therapeutic to my ears." Oliver replied.

"I'm glad you said that." Caden replied.

"Why so?"

"Because it calms me too." He replied.

Caden then stopped his work. He has finally finished the embellishments on the sleeves.

"There. Now those things won't go anywhere!" Caden spoke, marveling at his work.

"That looks good! So is the costume done, then?" Oliver asked.

Suddenly, the sound of grumbling interrupted their talk.

"Oliver, you're hungry, aren't you?"

"Yeah."

Caden then took the cold meals out of the tray Louise had laid for them. He handed one of them to his best friend.

"Here, come on let's eat. I'm sorry I kept you waiting." said Caden.

"Um. Where do we eat?" Oliver asked.

"Where else? On the bed! Now scoot over I'm sitting with you." Caden replied.

The two boys then sat on the bed together. Caden took one spoon of the food and spoke. "Aw man. The food's cold."

"I don't mind. I like eating cold food, too." Oliver replied.

They then carried on, putting spoons of rice and meat in their mouths. In the midst of it all, Oliver asked his best friend something.

"Um. Caden."

"What did it feel like?" he asked.

"Hm?" Caden asked back, seemingly not hearing the question.

"Last week. That thing that happened at the alley."

"Why'd you ask?" Caden replied.

Oliver put his bowl to the side and gripped Caden's calf. He just looked at his best friend with merciful eyes.

"I'm just curious. No one at school asked you how you were." said Oliver.

Caden's heart almost melted. His mind flashed back to the previous days. In fact, no one indeed asked him how he was. The other boys only cared to know what happened, but no one asked how Caden felt. His eyes started to glimmer, yet no light hit his face.
