Kama: Liberation by Shivran86

Score: 7/10

Notes: So far into the story, it's difficult to evaluate Rudra as a protagonist. We don't know what he wants. What's his goal? Is it to be with Indu? Is it to repent for what he did to Dilobar--physically punishing her? I think he's a prince, but I'm not sure--not enough information. The chapter is beautifully written, and the characters are compelling, but a strong protagonist always has a goal. Without that goal, he has no journey. Think Raiders of the Lost Ark. What's Indie's goal--to find the ark? What's Rudra's goal?

The Mandalorian and the Jedi: Book One of the Mandalorian Series by MDjarin17

Score: 10/10

Notes: Kyra is a strong protagonist with a noble goal: to free Mandalore from her aunt's destructive rule and retake the throne that was her mother's. She's a fighter: resourceful, compassionate, selfless and fearless. As a strong protagonist, she also has a secondary goal--save the child and fight for her friends. She is the best version of a protagonist.

The Gathering Dark by Aravis-Brightspell

Score: 8/10

Notes: Jessica is a reluctant protagonist. She has a unique gift: she interviews souls who have yet to cross over and gets paid for it. All strong protagonists have a noble (or not-so-noble) goal that drives them to the end of the book. What is Jessica's goal beyond writing articles and getting paid? There has to be something deeper that drives her or there is no conflict and conflict is the engine that drives the protagonist and the plot. Because the chapter is short, the author has an opportunity to flesh out Jessica's character and hint at what drives her besides interviewing ghosts.

Where Our Demons Hide by craftychicken

Score: 7/10

Notes: This prologue has two characters vying to be the main protagonist--Kaiden and Finley. Kaiden is arrogant, impulsive, lacks empathy, and is a bit of a bully. Finley is smart, unsure of himself, and lacks confidence. Kaiden is the official main protagonist, but both characters have the same goal--finish the ceremony and stay alive. If Kaiden is the main protagonist, he's not very sympathetic, and he'll have difficulties bonding with the reader. In the prologue, or at least somewhere in the first two chapters, he has to do something redemptive or the reader will abandon him.

The Five Cursed Witches: Volume 2 - Crimson, the Witch of Night by High_Priestess_Elena

Score: 8/10

Notes: Crimson is a witch and a vampire hunter. She became a hunter when her parents were killed by vampires. Now she hunts them for revenge, but also to keep the humans safe. She is self-sacrificing and puts herself in danger on a nightly basis to guard humans and kill vampires--she's a classic heroine. A little self-introspection showing her internal conflicts with her split world: vampire killer/human protector/and what she does for a living, and airing her internal/external conflicts will help her become a self-actualized character and the perfect protagonist.

So Far Away by Maleesha_M

Score: 6/10

Notes: You have to feel sorry for Pathum. He's started a new school so he can pass his A levels. Being a newbie, he takes a lot of abuse from the other students, especially the boys. There's not much growth in Pathum's character. His life at school is a litany of all the horrible things that happen to him daily. Pathum's goal is to stay invisible, and he does nothing to improve his situation. He needs a noble goal, like besting the bullies, winning the spelling bee, or getting the girl. Any achievement will build his confidence and help him become a self-realized character.
