Secrets and lies

When Dr. Nyle returned Roman had explained to him about healing Jasmine and Dr. Nyle had told him that his power was a unique one and that he'd only ever met one other vampire with the same power, although this vampire healed in a slightly different way. Roman, however, was unsure how to feel about his power. Dr. Nyle made his way to the spare bedroom to examine Jasmine's burn and to re-evaluate her state of mind and Roman, Dean and Seth waited downstairs until he returned half an hour later.

"Roman, how would you feel about attempting to heal Jasmine's burn?"

Dr. Nyle's question caught Roman off guard. "Uh..I mean I could try but I don't really know what I'm doing yet"

"Follow me" Dr. Nyle replied as he made his way towards the staircase "I'll help guide you"

Dean and Seth were far too curious to stay seated, so they followed behind Roman but remained in the doorway while Roman made his way inside. Jasmine was sitting on the bed and although she looked a little uncomfortable, she didn't seem to mind Roman's presence.

"From what you've told me about your hands tingling after Jasmine showed you her bite marks I suspect the reaction in your hands was triggered by seeing what needed to be healed" Dr. Nyle explained "Jasmine please lay on your front and lift your shirt up"

Jasmine followed Dr. Nyle's orders and almost immediately Roman's hands tingled.

"Are they tingling?" Dr. Nyle asked.

"Yeah" Roman confirmed

"OK. I am going to clean and dry the burn area and then you are free to start healing" Dr. Nyle informed him.

Roman's hands burned as he watched Dr. Nyle work

"You could heal with a single finger last time but I suspect you may need to use your whole hand this time" Dr. Nyle advised as he finished what he was doing. "It may take longer to heal than the bite marks did. Come over"

Roman moved to stand beside Jasmine and he suddenly felt nervous. He didn't know how to use his power properly and he was afraid of doing something wrong and making Jasmine's burn worse.

"Place your hand over the burn" Dr Nyle encouraged "You should feel a throbbing sensation in your hand, which will ease once the skin you are touching has healed"

Roman watched Jasmine carefully for any sign of discomfort, but he didn't see any. In fact, she looked like she was asleep. Roman looked at Dr. Nyle, silently conveying his concerns.

"I have given her a mild sedative" Dr. Nyle answered silently. "It will help to keep her calm and stop her from moving too much"

After a few minutes Roman's hand stopped throbbing, so he lifted it up and the skin underneath was healed.

"Good job" Dr. Nyle encouraged

Roman let out a sigh of relief before moving his hand down to the next part of the burn.

As the minutes passed by, Roman grew more confident. "This vampire with the same power as me. What did you mean by he healed differently?"

"He healed without making physical contact. I believe the term he used was 'faith healing' Dr. Nyle explained "But with that form of healing anyone he heals would need to believe in his ability before it could work"
