"We're two weeks into writing, and we have NOTHING!" Nathan aggressively tapped his whiteboard marker against the whiteboard.
"Well, we have in fact recorded I Wanna F You, Rock Star (through it), Bright So Bright, and Spin Like a Record. That's not nothing." Lynx said positively. Nathan screamed in frustration.
"Hey, hey, take it easy. You're going to damage your vocal cords." Lynx said, walking over to him with a cup of tea.
"Nathan, I don't see what the problem is. We're a third of the way through the album, and a quarter of the way through the vacation. If you ask me, we're right on schedule." Isaiah said, having never gotten so little sleep in his life, now that he was sharing a house with four teenage boys.
"Bright So Bright and Spin Like a Record shouldn't even be on there! The only reason we recorded them is because no one could come up with an idea!" Devon rolled his eyes.
"I wonder why?! Are you crazy?! You make us work like a bunch of robots all the time, of course nothing interesting will come out! If you give us a little more space, to go somewhere, just by ourselves. Then maybe there will be more results." Nathan sighed and he looked ahead with difficulty.
"But how do I know that you're actually writing?' James jumped up from the couch.
"You don't. But I'm sure they'll get more out of it than being locked up here." James walked to the kitchen where he poured himself a cup of tea. Nathan thought about it for a moment. Then he sighed again, defeated this time. He threw the pen in front of him on the coffee table and walked towards the stairs.
"Okay, you guys figure it out. I'm finally going to sleep." After a few nights of pulling all-nighters because Nathan thought he had the perfect song in his head, he was exhausted, especially after he found out in the morning that the melody was already from an existing song, and the lyrics were nothing more than an old verse from his school notebook.
"Uh, lads. I think we need to go grocery shopping again." James said, opening a few cupboards, looking for a biscuit to go with his tea.
"I'll go." Lynx said decisively. Isaiah was lying on the couch with his eyes closed.
"Give me an hour of quiet time and we'll be on our way." He said, suppressing a yawn.
"You don't have to come." Lynx said.
"I'm not letting you drive my car." Isaiah grumbled without opening his eyes.
"It's okay, I'll walk." Devon turned his head as soon as he heard that.
"Walk?" Lynx smiled.
"Don't worry, I'll be back in three hours. It's almost spring, I'll be fine, It'll be like a nice long hike." Lynx threw a bag over his shoulder and walked to the door.
"Do you know the way?" James asked a little worried.
"Oh that terribly boring long straight road? Yeah, no problem." Lynx was almost out the door when James ran after him with a bottle of water.
"Oh thanks." Lynx said.
"Stay hydrated, for your voice and all." Lynx nodded with a smile and was gone. Isaiah grinned with satisfaction.
"Now I can finally do what I want." Devon laughed when he saw his friend sprawled out on the sofa.
"Let me guess? Sleep?" Isaiah's grin widened.
"Exactly." James bit his lip.
"I'm upstairs." He said softly and walked through the living room towards the stairs, trying his best not to trip over the cables of all the equipment they needed to record their first demos. He stopped at his old room where he quietly opened the door and closed it behind him. On the bed he saw Nathan lying on his stomach in sweatpants, spread out over the covers.James bit his lip softly as he saw his bare back glistening in the dim sunlight from outside. He walked softly across the floor to him and jumped into bed next to him.Nathan jumped up in shock.
"Jesus, James." He mumbled and he sank back into the mattress calmly. James looked at Nathan.
"Overworked?" He asked softly. Nathan sighed for a moment and closed his eyes.
"I keep driving myself crazy." James laughed.
"You need to relax more." Nathan opened his eyes again and looked at James tiredly.
"I was, but then you jumped into my bed." James raised his eyebrows.
"My bed, you mean." Nathan sighed for the second time.
"Yes, your bed. Your princesize bed." James grinned and smiled at him, pleased with Nathan's statement.
"We can share it." He said softly with a loving smile. Nathan looked at James for a few seconds. He smiled confidently, seriously.
"I thought you were sleeping in the kingsize bed." James stared at the covers. He reached his hand to Nathan's lower back.
"You know, Nathan." Nathan looked at James, startled.
"How long has it been since you-"
"James?!?" There was a scream from downstairs. James pulled his hand from Nathan's hip and sat up.
"What?!?" He shouted back. Nathan lay on his back, shocked.
"Where are the matches?!" James sighed.
"They're on the fireplace!" There was a brief silence.
"Oh, found it!' Devon shouted back. James waited a moment and then turned back to Nathan. He looked at James seriously.
"You know, I really need to get some sleep." James opened his mouth, but he remained silent. Nathan didn't know exactly what James wanted from him, but whatever it was, he didn't feel like it at that moment.
"Right, I'll wake you up for dinner." James said, sliding off the bed and walking towards the door. Nathan watched him for a moment before closing his eyes in surprise and falling asleep.
After walking for about an hour, Lynx finally arrived at the supermarket. He had drunk half of the water James had given him and he arrived tired but energised by the sun. He looked around the supermarket a bit lost. He had no idea what to get, so he walked to the spice section and decided to pick out a dish himself. And this time it would be well seasoned. Since his bandmates' cooking skills weren't all that good. Lynx grabbed a few jars from the shelf and read the label. Then he put a few in his basket and went to the next section. When he got to the tea he noticed that the flavour he wanted was right at the top of the shelf. He reached for it by standing on his toes and as soon as he could touch it with his fingers he dropped it on the floor. Lynx looked at the floor in shock but saw nothing. When he looked up a bit he saw a hand holding the box of tea.
"Oh." He said confusedly and took it.
"Thank you." He said then, as soon as he looked at the person who handed him the tea the world seemed to stop turning. Attached to the hand was a friendly looking girl with beautiful long strawberry blonde hair and a sparkle in her smile that Lynx had never seen before. She smiled her straight teeth wide and the small lines around her eyes appeared along with the dents in her cheeks. Lynx felt himself floating at the sight of her, he could tell from her appearance alone that she'd have an amazing personality as well.
"They really put up that tea too high." Lynx woke up from his stare when the girl spoke.
"Tell me about it." He said a little shyly. The girl was still smiling and that was infectious to Lynx.Lynx realised that if he didn't say something now she would walk away and they would never see each other again.
"Uh, do you like Star Mint?" He cleared his throat nervously after his sentence and the girl stood there surprised.
"Yeah, it's one of my favourites." She said cheerfully. Lynx beamed with joy.
"Mine too, it's supposed to help with colds. So, good for the voice." The girl looked at Lynx questioningly.
"I, uh, sing. In a band." Her smile grew bigger and bigger.'Really?! That's so cool! Are you going to play at the talent night here in the bar soon?' The girl pointed through the window to an old-looking bar, it was the same kind of bar where the band played every Friday. But in this small town.
"Talent night?" Lynx asked briefly.
"Yes, the winner gets a prize." Lynx smiled.
"When is that then?"
"Next Saturday." Lynx thought.
"So, will you be there?" Lynx bit his lip unnoticed, he leaned a little closer, which made him notice that she was just a little bit taller than him. Which made him feel good, oddly enough.
"Depends, will you be there?" The girl smiled brightly.
"I'll be there. To see how well that tea works." Lynx grinned shyly. Then he held out his hand.
"Lynx." The girl looked up at his name.
"Lynx... I've never heard that before." Lynx laughed at the tone of her voice.
"It's more of a nickname, they say I look like the animal." The girl looked up brightly.
"I agree." She shook his hand and her brown eyes looked up into his.
"Faye." Now Lynx looked up at her name.
"Faye?" She smiled shyly again.
"It means fairy. Do you think I look like a fairy?" Faye looked at Lynx curiously. Lynx smiled broadly when he remembered what Nathan always called him. Airy-Fairy.
"You're the most enchanting girl I've ever seen."
