The hike back to town was quiet, each of them lost in thought, the weight of the purple medallion and its mysterious energy pressing on their minds. The moonlight cast a silvery glow over the trees, and the familiar sounds of the forest felt strange, almost foreign, after the silence of the cave.

"So...we're just supposed to keep this thing?" Leo asked, breaking the silence as he gestured to Ella's bag, where the four medallions were safely tucked away. "Like, what if someone else comes after us?"

Ella nodded thoughtfully. "That's why we need to keep them hidden. If the medallions really do connect to the Source, then they're powerful enough to attract all kinds of people. We can't risk anyone else finding them."

Alex agreed, but he couldn't shake the feeling that their discovery was only the beginning of something much bigger. "What if there are more people out there like the scar-faced man? People who know about the Source?"

Leo let out a dramatic sigh. "We're teenagers. We're supposed to be worrying about math tests and finding dates for dances, not protecting ancient magical crystals from evil dudes with scars."

Ella gave him a sympathetic smile. "I know it sounds like a lot, Leo. But maybe...maybe this is something we were meant to do."

Leo opened his mouth to argue, but he closed it just as quickly, resigned. "Alright, fine. But if we're doing this, we need a plan."

As they reached the edge of town, Alex slowed, the gears in his mind turning. "Let's keep the medallions hidden for now. We should meet back at the library tomorrow to go over the journal again. There might be clues about other medallions—or even about what the Source can really do."

They all agreed, and after a quick goodbye, they headed to their respective homes, careful not to draw attention. But as Alex lay in bed that night, staring at the ceiling, he couldn't shake the feeling that something was off. The cave, the Source, the scar-faced man's ominous warning—it all felt connected, like pieces of a puzzle he couldn't quite see.

The next day, they met at the library as planned, gathering in the back corner where they could talk in private. Ella pulled out the journal, flipping through the pages as Alex and Leo leaned in, each of them eager for answers.

"There has to be something in here that explains why the Source is so important," Alex said, watching as Ella scanned the ancient text.

Ella frowned, stopping at a page near the middle of the journal. "Look at this," she murmured, pointing to an illustration of a spiral surrounded by symbols, with arrows leading to what looked like a heart-shaped crystal.

Leo squinted at the drawing. "It's...a diagram?"

"It's more than that," Ella replied. "This spiral...it's almost like a map. It shows the path to the Source, the same way we followed the medallions. But here..." She pointed to a small, circular symbol on the outer edge of the spiral. "It says something about a 'final key.'"

Alex's eyes lit up. "So there's one more medallion?"

Ella nodded. "It seems like it. The journal says that the final key is hidden at the 'beginning' of the spiral. Whoever placed it there must have wanted it to be found last."

Leo groaned. "Great. More riddles. Why can't these ancient guardians ever just write things out clearly?"

Alex ignored him, his mind racing. "The beginning of the spiral...that has to mean somewhere close to the entrance of the cave. Maybe even the first chamber."

Ella nodded in agreement. "It's worth a look. If we're going to protect the Source, we need to understand everything about it—and that includes finding the final medallion."
