As soon as I was inside I could tell by the musty smell every bit of the house was probably a hundred years old. How can dad even think about buying a house like this? Our old home was apparently ‘too old’ for his liking!!! I decided to put my bags in my room and explore.
“Where is my room?” I called down as I got upstairs and there were about ten doors on either side of the corridor.
“Whichever you like dear! Just not the first five of each side please.’ My mum replied. ‘One of them will be our room and the other nine will be our storerooms! Isn’t it so nice to have lots of rooms for just bags sweetie?”
“Great!” I falsely chirruped. Yeah, great. So I’ve got 10 rooms to choose out of! I always got stuck with the cupboard sized one so now I got to pick one out of ten of my own choice. I passed the first ten rooms and then stopped outside number 6. (They were numbered. Strange! I’d soon have my stickers plastered on the door.) I left my rucksack outside and opened the door. CREAK! Great! A creaky door. I won’t be having this room then. And with that, I marched out again without having a proper look around. The next door was creaky and the next and the next.
After trying 8 doors I came to the last two which were not creaky. I looked back down the corridor and it seemed to stretch out in front of me. That’s a long way to the stairs, I thought, oh well, at least I’m not next to mum and dad’s room! I first went to the door on the right. I went inside and took a good look around. There was a double-sized bed in the middle, with its back facing the wall, a wardrobe in front of the wall next to the door and a chest of drawers beside the bed. There was a desk and chair right next to the window so I could look out whenever I was doing my work. I walked over to the window. Outside I had the view of the beach. It’s so lovely! The sand almost looks white and the sea is an enchanting dark blue. There was nothing for miles around. I suddenly took a great liking to this room, but I didn’t know what was enforcing it. I turned around and had a look at the room opposite. It was exactly the same layout and I went and looked out of its window. This looked into the window of our neighbours, about a yard away. I peered closely and saw movement on the other side. A man suddenly jumped up from the window and strode out the room. It took me a minute to work out where he was standing, where I couldn’t see him, when I realised. He was crouching underneath the window! He was spying on me! I suddenly took a great disliking to this room. I hurried out and shut the door. I walked to my bag where I left it and put it on my bed. Number 10 was my room! Now it was time to explore!
I started from the beginning. As I walked into the house I went straight to a door on the left. It was a dining room. There was a massive oak wood table in the middle with about eight chairs on each side with two at the top and bottom. There was a fireplace with a mirror on top on one side. There was a huge tapestry hanging on another wall. Inline with the front door, there was a big window overlooking the houses opposite. This is where we’ll eat?! We had to eat in the kitchen at our old home! There was no other door except the one I came in from. I turned around and went out. I walked to the door on the right of the front door. This was a toilet room. Can you believe it that this room is as big as my old bedroom and all there is in it is a toilet and sink? After that I progressed forward through the hallway. There was a kitchen at the very end. I went in and it was HUGE! But then I noticed something was missing. I tried to figure it out and then I got it. There was no Dishwasher. It was supposed be coming with the Removal Men. Where were they? I looked at my watch. It had been half an hour since we’d been here. I turned out of the kitchen and turned right to the Lounge. My mum and dad were there. There were no sofas or tables in here because we were bringing our own. My dad was trying to phone the Removal Men. “Hello? Hello? CAN YOU HEAR ME?” My dad bellowed. “WHERE ARE YOU?” All I could hear from the other end was a buzzing sound. “WHAT?! YOU HAD A WRONG TURNING?” Still I could only hear a buzzing. “YOU WON’T BE HERE UNTIL...NEXT...THURSDAY??!!!!!”
