Chapter 8 No Mystery?

When I returned home, things weren’t any better. The Removal Men were still coming on Thursday. But I cheered up when I smelt bacon, eggs and sausages. Yum! I hadn’t eaten all day and it was already half four! I went through the kitchen door and beamed at my mum.

“Hey sweetheart! Had fun?”

“Apparently no-one's allowed on the beach! This really scary old man almost threatened me! There was no trace of humans or animals on the sand!” I decided to tell her the mystery. Perhaps mum can help solve it! I brightened up at the idea.

“Maybe we should go down and get some answers!’ My mum smiled at me. ‘Solve this mystery and become a team! We could-”

“NO MYSTERY!’ My dad interrupted, storming in. ‘This newspaper says so! No-one’s allowed on the beach because they are making the environment healthy again. So there’s no’ he imitated my voice ‘scary old man. He’s probably making sure no-one goes there. That’s why he was telling you to go away! And there’s certainly no mystery!’ He smirked ‘Well, there is a mystery I would like answers to! When’s the food being served? THAT’S a mystery!” And he plonked himself on a chair at the table.

I went to my new room at eight, and got ready for bed. In my head I sorted through today’s events. Even though the newspaper had proof of an environmental clean-up, I still wasn’t sure it was the truth.

I got into bed and could feel myself falling to sleep. Actually, it probably is the truth. It explained why that man was angry. It was supposed to be his job to protect the beach. I ruined it. It’s just plain simple... I fell asleep
