When I woke up, my arms and legs were tied up and I was in what seemed to be a basement. I looked around the room, it looked like it was a smaller apartment instead of a basement. There was a bed directly in front of me, a stove and microwave to the right side of the room, and a toilet, sink and bathtub to the left side of the room. It looked like someone used to live here. I began to scream for help. Just as I did that, Brian came walking down the stairs from behind me.
"Good morning babe," he said, with a smile on his face.
"Don't call me babe, what the fuck is going on Brian," I yelled.
"Woah, calm down. Eat some breakfast first and then we can talk," he said, handing me a plate of food.
"I don't want your food. Where is my sister and what the hell do you want from me?"
"For starters, I didn't do anything to your sister."
He began to tell the story of my sister and his brother, Jonathan. He stated that his brother was a substitute at our high school and that's how he ran into Zalia. Apparently Zalia came onto him first, showing interest in him and flirting with him. One thing led to another, they exchanged numbers. On the day she went missing, she planned to run away with him.
"So, see, she didn't get kidnapped, she wanted to leave."
He continued on with the story. He said Jonathan brought her to this very cabin and they hid out here for over 2 years. But after Zalia became pregnant and suffered a miscarriage, she had complications. Jonathan knew that he couldn't take her to a hospital because she was considered as missing so he tried his best to nurse her back to health. When all of his methods did not work, Zalia passed away.
I began to cry, "I don't believe you! I don't believe a word out of your mouth."
"It's true, Zara. I wouldn't lie to you about anything like this. I even have pictures. Remember that picture you received in the mail? It was all a part of their plans. She never wanted her parents to know she left on her own. She didn't want to disappoint them."
He picked back up in his story. He then said how Jonathan called him up to come over and they took Zalia to their family crematorium and cremated her body.
"That necklace you have around your neck, it has some of her ashes in it."
I looked down at the necklace and began to cry again.
"How could you do this to me," I asked.
"I didn't do anything to you. I love you, Zara," he said, wiping my tears.
"After all that was said and done, my brother took his own life, right out there in front of the lake," he said, with tears forming in his eyes, "shortly after that, I found you. I felt like we could lean on each other and recreate what our siblings had with each other. But you started to heal and move on from her. How could you easily move on from your own blood disappearing?"
"Because I knew she would want me to. I'm sure your brother would have wanted the same for you. You didn't have to do this to me."
"I know, I'm sorry. I never wanted you to find out, but I saw on the cameras that you found her ring by the lake. So I knew you knew. But now that you know the truth, we can move on from this right," he said, looking up at me with his eyes bloodshot red.
"Yes, I think we can," I said as calmly as I could, to make him believe me.
"Thank you babe," he said, laying his head in my lap, "I love you so much."
"I love you too. Now can you take me out of this, it really hurts."
"Yeah, give me a second," he said, as he ran up the stairs.
He came back down with scissors and began to cut the ropes from around my arms and legs. As soon as I was freed, I kicked him in the nuts and made a run for upstairs. I ran out of the front door and just kept running. I had no idea where I was going, but I knew I couldn't stop running.
"ZARA, COME BACK HERE. ZARA," I heard him yelling from a distance.
I ran and I ran until I tripped and rolled into a ditch. I'm not sure how, but he caught up to me and pulled me out the ditch.
"Now why would you do something so stupid like that," he asked.
"You're sick! Let me go, I won't tell anyone. We could just walk away from each other," I pleaded.
"But I love you, Zara. And we're starting a family together," he said, pointing at my stomach.
"What the hell are you talking about," I asked.
"You'll see soon," he said.
I saw a car coming from a distance and began to scream out for help. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw who it was.
