As we arrived at Brian's family cabin, my mouth dropped in awe. It was huge. It sat on a lake across from beautiful mountains. I had always dreamed of staying in a cabin like theirs. It was definitely a new scenery I needed.
I turned to Brian and said, "Your family gotta be rich."
He smiled, "before we go in, I got a surprise for you," he said, getting out of the car and going to the trunk.
"Another one," I asked, getting out and following him.
He pulled out a small gift bag and handed it to me, "open it," he said, smiling.
I opened it and there was a black case inside, I opened the case and pulled out a beautiful diamond necklace with a small treasure chest and key on it.
"This is beautiful," I said, as he put it around my neck.
"And it matches mine," he said.
Sure enough it did, which made it even more special.
"Twinsies," I said, laughing.
We grabbed our bags out of the trunk and headed inside. I knew the weekend getaway would be amazing. The inside of the cabin was just as beautiful as the outside. There was a fireplace, a huge chandelier hanging over the living room area, the couches were made of brown leather, and there was a huge deer head hanging on the wall above their huge 60 inch television. There were so many different rooms in this cabin to explore, I knew I would get lost.
"This cabin is so stunning. I can't thank you enough for bringing me here," I said, rubbing Brian's arm.
He kissed my forehead, "you don't have to thank me. You've been through enough, I felt you needed time to relax and let me take care of you. And I brought your favorite wine."
"You are really talking my language right now, sir," I said, smiling.
"Go hang out and watch TV, I'll run you a bubble bath and get dinner started," he said, kissing me again on the forehead.
I sat down and turned the TV on but there wasn't much on, so I decided to explore around the cabin. I walked around outside to stare at the beauty of nature. I never realized how much beauty there could be on Earth. As I was walking towards the lake, I noticed something shining from the edge of the lake. When I got closer, I saw that it was a ring. A ring that looked exactly like the one Zalia would wear all the time. I looked on the inside of it, and there it was; her initials. What the fuck.
Before I could fully process it, Brian yelled out to me from the porch letting me know that my bath was ready. I hurriedly put the ring inside of my front pocket and ran back towards the cabin. My mind was racing with so many questions that I wanted to ask Brian, but I knew if he had something to do with her disappearance and I questioned him about it, it would only lead to something happening to me as well.
I went into the bathroom, locked the door and began to cry. I had been receiving letters all of this time and the monster behind them is the person I'm in a relationship with. I suddenly felt the urge to puke. He could possibly be trying to live out some sick fantasy using me and my sister. Then my heart began to race and I thought to myself: where is my sister?
There was a knock at the door, "Babe, why did you lock the door?"
"Oh, I didn't even realize it. It's a habit whenever I visit somewhere new," I said, wiping my tears.
"Well, okay. You're okay in there right?"
"Yeah, I'm fine."
"Dinner is almost ready and then I'll give you a back massage," he said.
"Sounds good to me."
This was going to be a long weekend. I just had to fake it until we got back to the city.
