"Damn it, nearly scared me to death."

Zhang Yuanqing collapsed onto the edge of the bed, his heart pounding.

A second later, and he feared he might have returned as a lifeless shell.

Once he managed to calm himself, he glanced down at the red dancing shoes on his feet, feeling his heart skip a beat again.

"Deactivate, deactivate."

The red shoes dissolved into a flickering red glow.

Phew, I almost had to stomp my feet in terror! Finally at ease, Zhang Yuanqing walked to the window, gazing at the towering buildings outside, watching the sunlight cast vibrant hues over green leaves, listening to the chatter of elderly folks and the faint hum of distant traffic.

It was dinnertime, and a delivery worker in a blue uniform sped through the complex on his scooter.

From the neighboring building's windows, the sound of vegetables sizzling in hot oil and the clatter of cooking utensils filled the air.

How good it is to be here, to be in the city.

After standing there for a few minutes, he felt the lingering horror dissipate entirely.

Now calm, he moved eagerly to the mirror to test his newfound abilities.

He centered his mind, steadied his thoughts, and silently communed with the Yin power within.

Gradually, Zhang Yuanqing watched his reflection vanish inch by inch, fading away into nothingness.

I can actually turn invisible. Heh heh heh.

Nine seconds later, his body reappeared in the mirror.

"Hm, feels a bit tiring, like I just ran a few laps around the track."

Next, he tested his physical strength, effortlessly denting a battery with a single squeeze and running a utility knife over the back of his hand, watching a small cut heal completely in less than five minutes.

Setting aside the supernatural abilities, just the sheer increase in muscle strength alone had elevated him beyond the realm of ordinary people.

As for the other active skill, "Soul Devour," he had no opportunity to try it yet, as there were no spirits nearby.

"My body is so strong now. If my old ailment acts up, maybe I can handle an overload for longer? No, what I really need is to check if there's a doctor among the Spirit Realm Walkers. I need someone to look at my strange illness."

Zhang Yuanqing then opened his inventory to admire his items but refrained from taking them out.

The Demon-Suppressing Staff was fine, but if he took out the Red Dancing Shoes, what if they demanded he dance along?

Staring at the Demon-Suppressing Staff, Zhang Yuanqing fell into contemplation.

If memory serves, the banyan spirit mentioned that the staff contained the Yang soul of the Three Mountains' Lady. Could she come looking for me?

The thought alone was unnerving.

NPCs from the Spiritual Realm shouldn't be able to manifest in the real world, right? And my chances of re-entering the mountain temple are slim. That small temple is already fully explored; it shouldn't host another task.

Though he said this aloud, he still felt uneasy. His mind kept flashing back to the Three Mountains' Lady's smile.

"Later, I'll go to headquarters and ask Sister-Commander and the Translator about it."
