Voice in the Woods

I was entranced. Entangled. Enamoured.

That time I walked aimlessly in the bush.

Was I dreaming? Was it all imagined.

When the critters fell silent, moments before an ambush.

A call, from deep within, a voice beckoned.

Words that set a hook, I gave in to its pull.

It led me not astray, but to the wild.

Where a diagnosis of delusion was plausible.

Am I mad? To hear a voice that led me like a child.

In a place where only nature was visible.

"Find our sanctuary, my voice to be your guide,"

The voice called, its source invisible

I returned to the bush I once walked.

Walking the trail, I marked, for all to see.

Trampled flowers from those who searched.

Trees cut down to sap, for all to see.

Plastic wrappers and empty cans left dumped.

Food scrapes left discarded, for all to see.

What was serene sanctuary, damaged

Tainted what was once pure.

"Can you find it before it is defiled?"

"The damage wrought remaining unresolvable"

"The damage wrought remaining unresolvable"
