Dumb Cookies

I got up from my seat as the ceremony began to come to a close.
We walked over to the refreshmentss table. I grabbed 3 small water bottles and walked over to my mother, and handed her a water bottle.
"Where's David?" I asked her.
"Oh, he's just talking to his friend right over there." She pointed to David and some short, red head. She was pretty, like most girls he talked to, not beautiful, like a small few he talks to.
The girl kept on laughing and playing with her hair. She got closer and kissed David on the cheek. She smiled and walked away, leaving my brother gawking after her.
"HEY, lover boy, wanna hug your sister and mom?" I shouted.
My mom laughed and then hugged my brother as he walked over and blushed at the fact we just witnessed that little affair of his.
"Congratulations! My little boy graduated high school!" My mother said completely forgetting what my brother just got a kiss on the cheek.
"Did you forget you had a brilliant sister over here?" I asked him jokingly while motioning at myself.
He then walked over and gave me a hug. I then handed him the mini water bottle and the he downed it in one gulp. He then crushed it in his hand and tossed it in the garbage.
"Where's my cookie?" He looked at me expectantly.
"Go get it yourself," I told him bluntly.
He put a hand to his ear in the form of a telephone and then nodded, "Oh, what was that? Who graduated today? What?! David Anthony Techello did? That's funny." He laughed with no humor and his expression went cold again.
I stared at him in amazement at what he would do to get out of things. Nevertheless, I folded my arms across my chest and looked at David, not budging.
"Katherine," my mom said sternly.
"What?" I said not looking away from David.
"Annabelle,"
I cringed. She was doing the full name trick. For some reason it bothered me SO much.
"Don't make me say it,"
I tapped my foot violently.
"Teche-"
I groaned threw my hands in the air and then glared at my brother
"All this drama over a dumb cookie." I glared at my brother.
"Hey it wasn't me that made mom have to say her full name." My brother shrugged.
I gave him one more death stare before I stomped off and walked over to the refreshment table.
"If he is able enough to graduate high school, you'd think he'd also be able to get a cookie, for Petes sake!" I grumbled to myself angrily before looking at their small cookie collection.
M and M, chocolate chip, oatmeal raisin, or macadamia nut?
Oatmeal raisin, chocolate chip, M and M, or macadamia nut?
Chocolate chip, macadamia nut, oatmeal raisin, or M and M? I thought in my head. Hey, just because I didn't want to go over and get the cookie doesn't mean I don't want to do the job to the best of my ability.
I decided to get M and M for David and chocolate chip for mom (Yes, I know she didn't ask, but I know she wanted one).
I also decided to get myself a cookie and finally chose on oatmeal raisin.
Right as I began to reach for it a hand then touched mine.
"Oh, sorry." I said while looking at the person, then realizing -
"Kat!"
"What?" I said with a bored tone to Oliver.
"You don't know half as sorry  as I am for what happened earlier, how can I make it up to you?" He said extremely sincere and worried.
I tried not to show that I thought he was actually pretty cute when he got worried.
Of course, I rolled my eyes and scoffed because I was extremely sensitive, and tender when it came to boys, since I broke up with... He who shall not be named, only a couple weeks ago.
I resumed my duty as I grabbed the oatmeal cookie and shoved it in a napkin, then swiftly walked back to my family.
"Kat!" He grabbed my shoulder softly. I turned around reluctantly and averted my gaze from his stunning blue - green eyes.
"Kat, I don't want to leave you like this, I will never be able to live with myself to know a girl like you, a kind, sweet, well cultured, probably extremely intelligent, real, and ridiculously beautiful girl like y-" he began to explain and then I looked up at him. He looked regretful and his hand was over his mouth.
I giggled and tapped his nose and he blushed a deep shed of red that was also extremely cute. I pulled out my phone and gave it to him.
"Give me your number, I'll call you sometime."
He then quickly typed a number and I smiled and walked off.

We pulled into the house and I swiftly got out of the car to call Oliver. Then, I stopped. Does it look like I'm trying to hard if I call him 15 minutes after I talked to him? Maybe I should've practiced with boys before I actually met a nice one. At least I hoped he was nice...
I fell in my soft bed and snuggled in on myself and looked at my phone. Examining the buttons and jacks.
"Hey," I was startled by my brothers voice.
"Oh, hey," I stayed the same on my bed, still snuggled and at peace.
   What? He was my brother.
"Did you wanna go to Rachel's party, she said I could take whoever I want and I wanted to save you from the awfulness that is Elmer, so..."
My eyes brightened and I sprung up and hugged my brother. "Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you!" I said overly excited to get away from that awful situation that is my step-dad, Elmer.
"Okay, I'll be ready in 10 minutes, I'll wait in the car for 10 seconds if you aren't there by then, sorry I'm leaving without you." He said as he ran over to his room.
I smiled happily and quickly grabbed my phone and hurried out the door. I didn't need to get ready anyway.
  I decided to call Oliver.
The phone rang two times and then I heard a confused voice.
"Hello?" The voice said on the other line.
"Oliver is that you?" I asked. I immediately regretted the words. It sounded like he had been at war and I was seeing him for the first time in 5 years or something. Jeez, great going Katherine. I winced and waited for his reply.
"Katherine! Wow, you actually called! I wanted to call you but I forgot your number and you just had mine." He said with a sense of relief in his voice. I smiled.
"Yeah, I'm about to go to a party so maybe we can talk later or text, or something." I suggested hearing my brother come down the stairs.
"Of course I can totally do that, okay,"
"Ehhh, bye!" I said awkwardly while watched my brother lace up his high tops.
On the other line I heard him chuckle a bit then say bye. I hung up and gasped for air as if I held my breath for 3 minutes like Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible:Rogue Nation. Very close to dying in fact.
"Kit you okay?" My brother asked me while chuckling. I was still slightly hyperventilating as I I nodded my head as hopped in shotgun.
I felt my phone vibrate and I checked slowly.
Becca: Are you going to Braxton's party?
I completely forgot that Becca was going to the party too and my eyes lit up. Becca had been my best friend since the 4th grade and we did practically everything together.
Me: Yeah, I'm going to be there in 5 minutes. But I'm coming for Rachel. 😅
Becca: haha, cool see you there
I smiled as I shut my phone off and looked ahead while I bobbed my head to vampire weekend playing on the radio.
Once we got to the party I saw Becca there and gave her the secret handshake.
I then saw him and gripped Becca's shoulder for balance.
"Dude! What the heck?" She then turned her head and saw him talking to his friends.
  "Oh no, darling."
