it was a nice, warm day in the first week of the summer holiday for the small town of derry and the losers were all sitting around in y/n's basement doing different things. stanley was playing bill and beverly in their hundredth round of uno while mike peered over his shoulder to observe and occasionally whisper a suggestion to stan, ben was scribbling words down into a notebook but pausing momentarily to fix the boombox whenever it'd start having issues and in a makeshift hammock was y/n laid on richie's chest as he had a rare conversation with eddie about how he's been doing living with a psycho control freak of a mother.
her eyes were shut and her cheek was pressed against his chest, her body laid entirely on top of him. not that he minded. the brown eyed boy had the arm closest to eddie wrapped around her waist so that his hand could rest securely on the small of her back underneath her shirt, his warm fingers rubbed gentle shapes onto her smooth skin and his other hand played with her soft h/c hair.
'it's just been a lot, i think. she still doesn't listen to me when i tell her that i'm not made of glass.' eddie sighed.
richie looked down at y/n for a few seconds, just to make sure she was still comfortable before letting his eyes drift back up to eddie's.
'i know it's difficult with her at home but just think about it. in a few years you can move out and if you want, you can come move in with me and y/n.'
eddie smiled at the boy's words. he wasn't sure what made him more happy, the idea of him moving out of his toxic household to live with two of his best friends or the fact that richie had already planned his future with y/n so far into the future. little did he know, richie had planned his life with the girl from the very moment he first saw her. he knew from the start he wanted her. wanted to kiss her and hold her, make her smile and comfort her when she cried... wanted to marry her.
'you really love her, don't you?' eddie asked. his eyes moved to scan over y/n's face, which was positioned towards him, asleep on richie's chest and her cheek that was so affectionately nuzzled into the fabric of his shirt.
richie smiled and pressed a couple kisses to the girl's head, earning a few sleepy hums from her, he loved her so much that he couldn't entirely comprehend it.
'i never say stuff like this, at least when i'm not alone with her, but i love her so much that no words in the englis- no, fuck that... in any dialect that could describe my love for her and do it justice, th-that could entirely describe just how much admiration and love i have towards that girl. my girl.'
eddie's eyes widened at what richie had just said. richard trashmouth tozier had said something so genuinely poetic that he was half convinced he'd just stolen it off some kind of book like pride and prejudice, possibly even from stanley or bill.
he watched the other boy's face as his cheeks slowly dusted a shade of pink and his eyes swarmed with affection behind his huge coke bottle glasses. seeing the loud and obnoxious trashmouth who spent every waking moment either swearing like a sailor or making the most inappropriate jokes be so soft made eddie see a new side of richie. with the discovery the realization hit him that he was really happy, content even, knowing that richie had someone to love but also that someone would always be looking out for y/n and loving her.
y/n had been a very important person to eddie, even when they'd just met, she cared for him so sincerely in a way he'd never experienced. he wasn't going to say it but he knew, he was grateful to whatever god or entity that was out there to choose how her life looks that they chose to give her the love and protection she deserved.
