Chapter One: The Betrayal

Percy's POV

I used to think nothing could ever make me walk away from the people I'd saved, the gods I'd fought for, the friends I'd bled with. But I was wrong. That kind of loyalty only worked until everyone turned their backs on you.

They'd come for me after Gaia fell. A new prophecy, one I wasn't even around to hear, had everyone whispering behind my back. Suddenly, every victory and every sacrifice meant nothing. I'd saved the gods, saved Olympus, but all it took was one slip, one false accusation, and they were ready to believe the worst. I'd never felt anything like it: my friends, the council, even... even Annabeth, looking at me with distrust. No trial, no chance to defend myself—just banishment.

Since then, I've stayed on the run, slipping between towns, hiding my tracks. News travels fast in the demigod world; every monster on the planet must have heard by now that Percy Jackson was on the "exiled" list. A target.

The strangest part? Despite everything, they're still looking for me. I'm supposedly tied to this new prophecy, and no one else can fill the role. Too bad they won't find me. I know the camp's routines, the gods' tricks, even the hunters' techniques. They'll never catch up.

I wish I could say I was lying low somewhere safe, but hiding means constant movement. I stick to shadows, deserted places, places that aren't exactly known for their charm. The quiet gets to me, but it's a better option than running into people who'd rather see me dead.

It's not just the monsters, though. Old enemies, ones who I swore I'd fight until my last breath, are starting to make their offers. They're more persistent than I'd expected. It seems like they can sense I'm out of options, and they've come out of the woodwork, one by one, like snakes slithering out to bask in the sun.

One night, I'm by an old abandoned farmhouse, trying to catch a few hours of sleep, when the next "visitor" arrives. A dark figure appears near the edge of the field, their steps crunching on dead leaves. I can tell from the aura of power coming off them who they're connected to, but I stay silent, watching as they stop a few feet away. I know the drill: another "opportunity" to take back my power, another chance to get "justice" against those who wronged me.

"Join us," the figure says, voice as slick as oil. "They betrayed you. They cast you out, left you alone. Help us take them down, and you'll finally have your revenge."

Revenge. It's a tempting word. But I shake my head. I didn't fight all my life just to become the thing I'd been fighting against. They might've turned on me, but I won't cross that line.

"No thanks," I reply, turning away. "I'm not interested."

The figure snarls and disappears into the shadows, leaving me alone. Again.

I'm so drained I can barely keep my eyes open, but sleep never comes easy anymore. My mind's too full of memories: all the people who looked up to me, the friends who trusted me, the family who... I don't even know what they think now. Every betrayal, every accusation hits me like a fresh wound, and I'm left with nothing but echoes of a life I can't go back to.

I'm about to get up and leave when I feel something shift, like a ripple in the air. I've felt power before, but this... this is on another level. Before I can react, a voice booms out, rich and resonant, shaking the very ground I'm standing on.

"Perseus Jackson."

I turn around slowly, my heart pounding. Standing there, just a few feet away, is a figure like I've never seen before. She's shrouded in a dark, starry light that shifts and swirls around her like the night sky itself, her presence radiating both chaos and order.

It hits me who this is, and I stumble back, stunned. Lady Chaos. I never thought I'd see her, let alone have her standing right in front of me.

"Perseus," she says, her voice softer but still echoing with that same power. "You are lost."

I swallow, trying to keep my voice steady. "No offense, but that's kind of obvious."

She doesn't smile or laugh, but her eyes glint with something like amusement. "I know the pain you carry," she says, her voice dropping to a low, melodic tone. "Your loyalty, that which once bound you to the world you protected, is now the chain that keeps you tethered to your past. A past that has forsaken you."

I don't know what to say. Every word cuts deep because she's right. The thing that kept me going—my loyalty, my need to protect—now feels like a curse, pulling me back to a life I don't belong to anymore.

"Why are you here?" I ask finally, my voice barely more than a whisper.

Chaos steps forward, the stars in her cloak swirling like galaxies. "I am here to offer you freedom," she says. "A place in my realm, far from Olympus and its tangled bonds. You would serve no one, answer to no one, and finally live by your own terms."

Her words hit me like a wave, washing over everything I thought I knew. Freedom. No strings attached, no betrayals, no prophecies. A real chance to leave it all behind.

I close my eyes, thinking of what I'd be leaving if I took her offer. But honestly, there's nothing left for me to leave.

"Why me?" I ask, looking up to meet her gaze. "Why offer this to me?"

Chaos watches me, her expression impossible to read. "Because, Perseus, I know what it is to carry burdens others cannot understand. To be bound to worlds that neither know you nor deserve you."

The words sink in, settling deep into the part of me that's kept fighting, kept hoping, even after everyone turned their backs. Maybe it's time to finally let go.

A beat of silence passes between us, and I take a deep breath, weighing the choice in my hands. A life in Chaos' realm, free from the endless prophecies and betrayals, or a life in hiding, hunted by everyone I once called family.

I nod slowly, feeling a strange calm settle over me. I open my mouth to answer.
