Chapter Four: Forging Heroes

Percy's POV

The sun hung high in the sky as I stood before the gathered demigods at Camp Ultimate, their faces a mix of uncertainty and defiance. I could feel their wariness; they didn't know me, and I wasn't here to win their trust. I was here to prepare them for the battles ahead, and I intended to do just that.

"Today, we start with the basics," I announced, my voice cutting through the murmur of skepticism. "You will learn to harness your powers and master hand-to-hand combat. Each of you has untapped potential waiting to be unleashed."

They shifted uncomfortably, glancing at one another, clearly unsure of what to expect. I could sense their hesitance, especially from the Hunters and the Amazons. There was an unspoken reluctance to train with a male, but necessity had brought us together. They needed guidance, and I would provide it.

"First up," I said, motioning toward a cluster of trees lining the training grounds, "we'll practice using your powers. Each of you will summon your abilities, and we'll see how well you can control them under pressure."

The first volunteer stepped forward, a son of Apollo with sun-kissed hair and determination in his eyes. "I can control light," he said confidently.

"Good. Show me," I replied, crossing my arms.

He concentrated, the air around him shimmering as a beam of sunlight flickered to life. I watched carefully, assessing his control. "Now, focus on maintaining that light. Change its intensity," I instructed. "Make it brighter. Dimmer. Keep it steady."

As he struggled to adapt the beam, I moved closer, guiding him through the process. "Feel the energy within you. It's not just about force; it's about connection. Understand it, and it will obey you."

After several attempts, he managed to keep the beam stable, and I nodded in approval. "Well done. Now let's see how you can use that light offensively."

Next, I moved on to a daughter of Athena, who stood with a sharp glint in her eye. "I have control over wisdom and strategy," she said, a hint of pride in her voice.

"Then let's put that to the test," I replied, gesturing toward the training dummies. "Strategically attack those targets using your intellect."

As she devised a plan, I watched the gears turn in her mind, her strategic prowess evident. "Use your environment. What weapons do you have at your disposal?"

She glanced around and quickly grabbed a spear. I admired her resourcefulness as she used her quick thinking to take down the dummies with precision, her skills improving rapidly.

As the day wore on, I pushed them harder, alternating between power training and hand-to-hand combat exercises. Each demigod faced their challenges, but I would not let them falter. I instructed them on various weapons: hunting knives, swords, daggers, and spears. I had them practice each style, teaching them the strengths and weaknesses of every weapon.

When it came time for the Hunters and Amazons to step forward, I sensed their reluctance. They exchanged glances, unsure if they wanted to trust a male instructor. "I know some of you have reservations about training with me," I said, my tone even, "but I promise you this: I am here to elevate your skills, not undermine them."

The Hunters, particularly, bristled at my presence, their fierce independence making it clear they preferred to train among themselves. I could see the tension, but it only fueled my determination. They needed to understand the value of collaboration. "You will fight against me," I declared. "Only then will you truly sharpen your skills."

Reluctantly, they took their positions, and I demonstrated several combat techniques, showing them how to adapt their movements to different weapons.

Then it was time for Thalia, daughter of Zeus and one of my personal favorites before everything went wrong. As we squared off, I could see the determination in her eyes—a mixture of family loyalty and competitive spirit.

"Let's see what you've got," I said, my tone playful yet serious. I murmured "cousin" under my breath, knowing no one else would hear.

With a swift motion, she summoned a crackling bolt of electricity, sending it arcing toward me. I dodged effortlessly, causing gasps to erupt from the gathered demigods. No one had ever seen anyone evade lightning before.

As she recovered, I retaliated with a wave of water, drenching her just as she released another lightning strike. The two elements collided, and I watched with satisfaction as the electricity bounced back, stunning her momentarily without causing serious harm. She staggered back, wide-eyed, while I stepped away, letting the tension settle.

"Good job, Thalia. But remember, control is key," I said coolly, turning to leave without another word. I could feel the murmurs behind me as they processed what had just happened.

As the sun began to set, I called them all to gather. "You've trained hard today. Remember, strength is not just in your powers or skills but in your ability to work together. Each of you has a part to play in the battles to come, and I will prepare you for anything."

The demigods nodded, the walls of skepticism slowly crumbling. As I glanced around, I could see that they were starting to respect me as their trainer, even if they didn't yet trust me completely.

Before I left the training grounds, I turned to the Hunters and Amazons. "I may be a male instructor, but I have learned from the best. Trust me to help you hone your skills, and I promise you will be stronger for it."

With that, I left them to ponder my words. As I walked away, I couldn't shake the feeling that I was forging something greater than just warriors; I was building a family, a bond that would hopefully transcend the pain of the past.
