Chapter Sixteen: A Morning to Remember
---
Sunlight filtered softly through the curtains as Y/N blinked awake, stretching as she found herself still curled up next to Finneas. She looked up to see him already watching her, a gentle smile on his face.
“Morning,” he said quietly, his voice warm and comforting.
“Morning,” she replied, a bit shyly, feeling her cheeks warm under his gaze.
Finneas took a deep breath, as if gathering his thoughts. He shifted slightly to sit up, reaching for her hand. “Y/N,” he began, his tone sincere and a little nervous, “I’ve been meaning to ask you something.”
Her heart started to race, her hand in his feeling warm and safe. “What is it?”
He looked at her, his eyes full of affection. “I know we haven’t known each other all that long, but… you’ve come to mean so much to me. So,” he said, clearing his throat with a shy smile, “would you… do me the honor of being my girlfriend?”
Y/N’s face lit up with a smile, her heart nearly bursting. “Yes, of course, Finneas,” she replied, barely able to contain her excitement.
They looked at each other, both a little breathless, and Finneas leaned in, his lips brushing hers softly. It was a gentle, sweet kiss, one that held all the unspoken feelings they both shared. As they pulled back, they both wore matching smiles, eyes shining with happiness.
Unbeknownst to them, Billie had been lurking just outside the door, a grin forming on her face as she watched them. She’d gotten bored and couldn’t resist a bit of spying, curious to see if her brother had finally made his move. Seeing them so happy together made her smile even wider.
After a moment, she cleared her throat loudly from the doorway, causing both Finneas and Y/N to jump in surprise.
“Really, Finneas?” Billie teased, arms crossed but a playful smile on her face. “You couldn’t wait until I was out of earshot to get all lovey-dovey?”
Finneas groaned, but he couldn’t help laughing as he pulled Y/N a little closer. “Guess the secret’s out.”
Y/N blushed, laughing along with him. “Guess so.”
Billie rolled her eyes, but there was a gleam of approval in them. “Just treat her right, Finneas. Or I’ll have to step in.”
“Oh, I will,” he replied, looking back at Y/N with a softness that said everything. “Trust me, I will.”
