-Grey POV-
"It really is you. You still have that hard work and outside smell as you did back then." Eve says sniffling and she moves back a little. "You're not as pudgy as you used to be." She says and I take a step away from her.
"Yeah. When you live on your own and then become a father you need to be healthy." I say and she looks conflicted.
"Who is their mother?" She asks and I frown.
"Out of the picture." I say neutrally and get between them and my children. Evelynn's eyes widened as the other girls looked perplexed at why I did this.
"Grey...do you really think I'd hurt your kids?" Evelynn asks and slowly reaches out to me. Out of habit my tail goes between my legs.
"A lot could change in people Evelynn. I won't let anyone harm my children." I tell her and she nods.
"Grey I promise on my life I won't harm your children." She says and I ease up a little.
"We can talk back at the house." I say and look at my kids. "You two get in your seats and I'll make you two homemade ice cream." I say softly and they smile brightly.
"Yay!" They cheer and quickly head to the truck. I smile and begin to pick up the picnic stuff.
"Let me help." Evelynn says and I look at her.
"Don't bother. I don't want you to dirty up your designer clothes." I say and she kneels down to pick up anyway.
"Clothes are just clothes." She says and I look at her.
-Memory-
"Grey! Look at my pretty new dress!" Evelynn cheers and I smile.
"You look great Evie! Guess you aren't going to play baseball today." I say and she smiles.
"Of course I'm going to play it! It's your favorite sport after all!" She says and I smile. We head to the baseball field where the other kids are. As we play I catch a fastball, I throw it to second but they fumble it, Evelynn quickly rounds third heading right to me, just as I catch the ball, she slides into me making yelp as I fell on my tail.
"Safe!" The teacher yells and Evelynn gets up to cheer. But I whimper as I really hurt my tail.
"Grey?" Evelynn says and I look at my tail with tears in my eyes. I look up at her dirty dress and she gasps. "Your tail!" She says and I nod.
"Get to the nurses office immediately." The teacher says and Evelynn is quick to help me.
-Ending of Memory-
"You know those are way more expensive than that old dress." I say as we stand up. She pats and swipes at the dirty spots while looking up at me.
"But I can replace them and a little dirt never hurt anything." She says and I shake my head. "How's your tail by the way?" She asks and I scoff.
"It's been almost twenty years since that happened Evelynn." I say and begin to head to my truck.
"Twenty one years actually. But I have to ask because you never take care of yourself." She says and I sigh.
"Well it's fine now." I say and flick it around to show her.
"Well what happened to your ear and eye?" She asks and I open my door.
"A lot has changed since you left home Evelynn." I and get in. "Here's my address. See you in a while." I say and drive off
"Papa? Are you okay?" Liliana asks and I sigh softly.
