Shehnaaz lay on the hospital bed, her face a mixture of exhaustion and exasperation. The pain was unbearable, and she was glaring at Sidharth, who sat by her side, nervously flipping through his phone, clearly out of his element.
"Aap mujhe sun bhi rahe hai?" Shehnaaz snapped.
Sidharth, startled, looked up. "Of course, I am. You said you need me, and I'm here."
"Need you? I need you like I need a hole in my head!" Shehnaaz groaned, clutching the sides of the bed as another wave of pain hit her.
Sidharth panicked, fumbling with the water bottle. "It's okay, Shehnaaz. You're doing great! Just breathe in and out—"
Shehnaaz shot him a look that could kill. "Breathe in and out? Really, Sidharth? You think that's going to help me right now? Do you even know what I'm going through? You do this to me, and now you're telling me to breathe?"
Sidharth opened his mouth, then closed it, unsure whether to respond or not. He had no idea what she was going through. Nothing could prepare a man for this. He stared at her helplessly.
"Baby -" he try to hold her hand but she jerk it.
"Don't touch me muh tod dungi main ahhh" she clutch her belly feeling the sudden pain. "Sidharthhhhhhh kya zarurat thi mujhe pregnant karne ki"
Sidharth gulped, but his voice was calm. "Maine akele ne thodi plan kara tha, Shehnaaz. But now that it's happening, we're in it together, okay?"
"Together?!" Shehnaaz hissed, "You think we're in this together? You are the one who got me pregnant, remember? Aur idhar saara dard akele main jhel rahi hu, isme justice kaha hai?"
Just as the pain intensified, Shehnaaz let out a string of curses. "This is all your fault, Sidharth! Next time, I'll make sure to get a lawyer before I agree to anything with you!"
Sidharth, trying to ease the situation, gently placed his hand on hers. "Dekho Shehnaaz sab theek ho jayega i promise main ek acha father banke dikhaunga, aur tumhe kuch karne ki zarurat nahi hai main sab kaam karunga na baby ka aur-"
Shehnaaz shot him a look of disbelief. "Aap? Jo aadmi apne socks tak khudh nahi uthata? What are you going to do? Change diapers with your CEO hands?"
Sidharth chuckled nervously "Sikh raha hu na baby dheere dheere sab kaam aa jayega"
Shehnaaz muttered something under her breath, her face scrunching up in pain as another contraction hit.
The doctor walked in just then, interrupting the banter "Alright, Shehnaaz, it's time. Just a little more, okay?"
Shehnaaz looked at Sidharth, who was white as a ghost "Kya? Don't tell me aap mujhse zyda dare hue ho".
Sidharth shook his head but stammered while saying "Main.... main dara hua nahi hu! I'm just..just... worried for you."
Shehnaaz rolled her eyes. "I'm the one going through the labor, not you. You should be worried about the poor kid coming into this world, not me!"
The doctor chuckled softly as he positioned himself. "Alright, Shehnaaz. Push when you're ready."
Shehnaaz immediately squeezed Sidharth's hand so tight he almost yelped in pain. "I hate you for this, Sidharth," she gritted out, her teeth clenched as she pushed with all her might. "You owe me big time! I want a spa day every week for the next year...."
Sidharth's eyes went wide "Anything. Just.....please, don’t break my hand, abhi to maine apne bacche ko pakda tak nahi hai".
"Yaha meri dard se jaan ja rahi hai aur aapko apne haath ki padi hai" she shout him.
