"I'm not happy about this, I hope you know that," Heeseung sighed and dragged his palms across his face, a low growl full of frustration leaving his chest as he sat on the chair across the two boys, who were standing. "We can see," Yeonjun, the older and one of the top detectives in their country scowled as he spoke, his posture composed as he stood beside Soobin, who seemingly flinched at Heeseung's outbreak. The chief obviously sighed, unable to help the younger out of the situation he was unwillingly dragged into.
"I wish I could do more. But as the chief, I have to trust Yeonjun Hyung's and my own judgment on this," Soobin's words caressed the air and eased the tension that seemed to have surrounded them as he approached the youngest in the room with unsteady steps. It was why he deserved to be the chief, he dealt with everything intelligently. "At least give him a chance, Hee," Gone was the mask of professionalism and Soobin softly brushed Heeseung's arm. The chief could hear a sharp intake of breath from behind him and he raised a brow.
He turned to face the older and shot his boyfriend a sharp look before turning back to Heeseung. "Park Sunghoon will be here soon and just the way you don't want him here, Yeonjun Hyung doesn't either but he had to help his cousin and this case," Soobin chuckled when Yeonjun rolled his eyes. "I did it just because his mother pushed me to look at all the information he had gathered."
Heeseung scowled before he finally snapped. It started with a twitch, an involuntary spasm that betrayed the mounting tension within. "You're telling me, you're putting so much at risk just because Detective Yeonjun's mother has no idea how the law enforcement works and pushed him to get a child to work with us?"
The words, once carefully chosen, now spilled out in a torrent of raw emotion, each syllable carrying the weight of a thousand unspoken thoughts. "Don't put it that way, we only let him after much consideration. Sunghoon is not a child." Gone was the mask of Heeseung's collected composure, replaced by a visage contorted with anger and frustration.
"This is a fucking murder case that we are speaking about; four girls need justice, Chief. Four. And you're teaming me up with a fucking school reporter! What's he going to help me with? Gossip? Drama? Rivalry?" Heeseung was on his feet now and Soobin stepped back, only to be met with Yeonjun's chest who was still calm, unbothered.
"Sunghoon is smart, he's been working on this case as soon as it started, three years back. He can help you out, Detective. He's got something we haven't- insight. Look, I don't like this either but this case has been ongoing for so long with hardly any leads, we have to approach this from every angle otherwise the case goes cold and no one gets justice. Sunghoon is our best shot"
Yeonjun sighed when Heeseung paused and took a moment to think all while Soobin silently prayed that he would agree. "Fine. But only because we are out of options. First thing, I want to see everything he has. If he can't give me reliable information, he's out." Yeonjun raised a brow. "We have a deal," Soobin sighed.
