Ava's point of view

I couldn't shake off the feeling of unease after leaving the gallery. Elijah's words echoed in my mind: "I won't be controlled."

Who was his father, and what did he want?

That night, I found myself researching Elijah's family. The Blackwoods were a powerful and reclusive clan, with whispers of dark secrets.

As I delved deeper, my phone buzzed. A text from an unknown number:

"Ava, stay away from Elijah. He's not what he seems."

My heart skipped a beat. Who was this?

I tried to brush it off, but the message lingered in my mind.

The next day, I spotted Elijah on campus. Our eyes met, and I felt that same spark.

"Ava, I need to explain," he said, his voice low and urgent.

We walked to a secluded spot, away from prying eyes.

"My father's... complicated," Elijah began. "He wants me to take over the family business, but I refuse."

"What kind of business?" I asked, my curiosity piqued.

Elijah's eyes clouded. "Something I'd rather not involve you in."

I sensed the weight of his secrets, but I couldn't help wanting to help him.

"I'm already involved, Elijah," I whispered. "I care about you."

His gaze locked onto mine, and for a moment, I saw a glimmer of hope.

But then, his expression hardened.

"You don't understand, Ava. You can't be part of my world."
