Finding out your wife was getting married wasn't something Ishaan wanted to find out on that Saturday morning.
It was a normal day when one of his men, whom he had charged to check on Kamari, told him about her wedding.
Ishaan didn't waste a second, calling his brother and telling him to bring Kamari home. After he took the first flight, he could find and return to Pakistan.
His driver picked him up at the airport. He had called Adeel to ask him about the situation. Kamari was home. That was the only thing he heard. She was waiting for him, and he smiled at the thought.
He was nervous. Ishaan wasn't the type to get nervous until he had met Kamari.
When he entered his house, he heard yells. He expected Adeel to create a mess. It was Adeel signature move. But what he saw made his blood boil. His mother was about to slap his wife.
"Ami, I hope you weren't about to slap my wife." Everyone turned toward the door where he stood. His mother's raised arm fell quickly, and Kamari took a few steps back, not wanting to be touched.
Ishaan feet moved towards her, shielding her from everyone.
"Your wife?" His mother whispered, falling back. Her daughter, Fahria, caught her and made her sit. "What is going on here?" His Dadi spoke up.
"She is my wife, this house's daughter-in-law, and I won't tolerate anyone disrespecting her." His voice was calm, like his father, but also dominant. No one, not even his father, knew what to say. Ishaan's message was clear: no one should disrespect his wife, or he will have to deal with him. He saw Adeel sighing out of relief, and Asif was smiling at him.
"How? When? Why?" His mother began crying. He knew she had so many dreams for her son's wedding, and now they were all gone. Ishaan then explained them. No one dared to speak. They just listened to him quietly. And no one could ignore the sweetness with which he told everything. It was as if he missed those moments.
"That was kind of you. But think of our family's reputation. She doesn't reach our standards." Izhaar Khan was a strict and principled person. He worked all his life to protect his life. He was proud of his son, but they would not let him destroy his family. Ishaan knew it would be difficult to convince his father, but Ishaan was his father's son. He won't give up fighting. Not this time.
Ishaan smiled. No one understood why he was smiling. "She reaches my standards, even breaking them." One line, that one line, surprised everyone. Ishaan was not like that. And now he was behaving out of character.
"I want divorce." She spoke up, breaking the silence. No one knew what to say after Ishaan's confession. His family except him, Rani, Asif, and Adeel were happy to hear that. And for the first time, he looked at her. All along, he had been looking at his family because he knew that if he looked at her even for a moment, he wouldn't be able to stop.
