Stepping out of the airport I'm already sick of this place. It's way too hot. I've only been standing there for a couple mins and I already feel sticky and nasty. I pull my black hair up and sigh. My grandfather was supposed to be here but I don't see him. I look around and sigh. Mama said he was a tall man with black hair and has a scar on his chin.
"Kalene?"I hear behind me. I turn to see a tall man. Like really tall I feel like a hobbit compared to him. Yes I watched Lord Of the Rings don't judge me. Anyway his hair was black but was greying at the roots, he had tan skin slightly burned around his nose, and though you can tell he was in good health he had a couple wrinkles on his face with the scar on his chin.
"That's me"I say giving my best fake smile and throwing up a peace sign. He smiles at me big.
"You look just like your mother"he says and I smile slightly.
"Thanks"I say softly. He smiles lightly at me and puts an arm around me guiding me to the parking lot.
"So it's about a 2 hour drive from here to where we live"he says and I look at him wide eyed.
"Your mother didn't tell you did she"he says while I shake my head.
"I live on a farm with my wife, your grandma, it's about 10 minutes outside small town"he says and I shake my head.
"No no way I'm a city girl born and raised I can't live in the country I might actually die out there do u realize I'm clumsy and on top of that do u realize how racist these towns can be I'm Hispanic I might get killed the KKK dude I'm going back home"I say freaking out. I start walking back to the airport but he pulls me back.
"There's more than enough Hispanics where we're going no one is going to hurt you"he says seriously looking me in the eyes "I promise"he says sticking out his pinky. I stare at him for a minute wondering if he can actually keep that promise.
"I'm not an easy person to live with"I say raising an eyebrow.
"I bet your mama was worse"he says his pinky still in the air. I sigh and hook my pinky through his.
"I better not regret this"I say as we get into his black pick-up truck.
