Obanai's POV

He didn't know why, but he did not like the way Rengoku was staring at Yuki. Like Rengoku was playing with Mitsuri's feelings. And Yuki's. And he felt very uncomfortable about that. Meanwhile, Kaburamaru had stuck adamantly to Yuki again.

"Stupid snake! Come here!" Obanai said angrily, to which Kaburamaru flat-out refused. "Yeah, what was up with that?" Yuki asked him. "Because both of you were giving very weird vibes. And I don't get it. One minute you were perfectly rude and blunt like your normal self. Next you're this ideal perfect man. I don't get you", she said accusingly.

"I'm not doing this so you can get me", he emphasized. "I want Mitsuri and you want Rengoku".

"And a stable relationship", Yuki reminded him. He sighed. "Yes, that too. Alright, where do you want to go?" Yuki looked at him in disbelief. "You mean you meant what you said about going on a date?" she asked wonderingly. When he nodded impatiently, she nearly tripped and did a double take, beaming. "K! So why don't we try that new cafe?" she asked, pointing to the cafe not far from them. A huge sign read Tranquility. "The name does sound promising", Obanai agreed.

Yuki wrinkled her nose. "Are you always like this? Talking in Shakespearan lingo?" Obanai sighed. "That's not Shakespearan lingo. That's advanced English." Yuki muttered, "Whatever".

They walked in. It was, like the name, pretty peaceful. There were hanging green vines along the walls. A beautiful water backdrop surrounded it. Yuki breathed happily. "What? Water calms me down", she said, when Obanai gave her a funny look. "I'll go order, you pick a table".

He picked a table where the water moved in swirling currents all round. The napkins were pretty simple. He sat down by the window, staring into the calm blue water. He could have gotten lost in that blue. With a jolt he realized it was very similar to the blue of Yuki's eyes. A perfect, shimmering sapphire blue, with her messed up blond hair and blue highlights.

Wait. Enough about Yuki.

That made him look down at his own dirty black t-shirt, classic white jeans and snake. A girl nearby him freaked out and ran screaming. He looked at her, bewildered. Yuki came up behind him, laughing. "That's Makomo from that class we have together. She's afraid of snakes. She's really brave otherwise", she added, when Obanai wrinkled his nose in disdain. She set down a plate of totoru kombu for him and sat down next to him. He looked a his food in distress.

"What?" Yuki asked, looking up from her steaming ramen, "Don't you like totoru kombo?" Obanai nodded, speechless. HOW DOES SHE KNOW MY FAVORITE FOOD?!

"I asked them to remove the shrimp", Yuki added, "So don't worry. Its allergy-free". At which Obanai freaked out even more. (Look I made that shrimp part up don't judge me they should really make anime profiles like they make K-Profiles

"Thanks".

She must have noticed this when I ordered in the cafeteria. She's so observant. So much like...

Mitsuri.

...

Obanai couldn't believe it. He had just compared Yuki to Mitsuri. And Yuki came close. And that's what worried Obanai the most. Her attitude to him had changed so much in a day that he felt suddenly wrong about hurting her. If only he'd gotten to know her better, because now he knew how nicely she treated fake boyfriends. How much she showed that she cared. And she must be special, because Obanai wasn't the type to have 180 degrees changes in a day.

"Are you alright? You aren't eating", he observed, seeing Yuki gaping at a couple nearby. It was Mitsuri and Rengoku. As Obanai watched in disgust, Rengoku cupped Mitsuri's face and kissed. Yuki gagged and looked at her plate, unable to stop the tears that spilled.

"Hey, hey, hey", Obanai called, panicking, "Don't cry. Please don't cry." I have no idea how to handle you. His brain was sending panicked alerts to his body. "I-I, gah! I'll kiss you too, OK?"

If his plan was to shut her up, it definitely worked. She gave him a I-turned-to-stone-expression like the one in anime. Her jaw was undecisive whether to fall open or scream at him, so she opted for a glare. "Sorry", he said awkwardly, it's alright. Just then Mitsuri looked at Yuki, smiled, and continued kissing Rengoku. That made Obanai's blood boil.

Without thinking what he was doing, he reached over and kissed Yuki. It was very gentle and sweet and small, but Yuki seemed ready to pass out. She looked daggers at him, tears pricking the corners of her eyes. And Obanai knew he messed up, bad. He sighed, "I'm sorry-"

But Yuki was already storming out of the cafe. "Wait- Yuki! I'm sorry! Wait!" he called, cursing himself for kissing her. Stupid, stupid, stupid! Why did you kiss her?! He ran after her, tripping multiple times and not caring. He found her on a lonely park bench. She was sobbing her eyes out, which made Obanai feel even more guilty. "Yuki...I'm honestly sorry. I shouldn't have kissed you. Please don't hate me", he said in a small voice. He knew he needed her to win over Mitsuri, but this didn't seem to be about Mitsuri anymore. And that distressed him the most.

"I don't hate you", she mumbled, "I hate the way you're making me feel- like Rengoku isn't the best choice". Obanai's eyes widened and he ducked his face to stop her from seeing it flaming. "If I despise anything, it's false hope. And that's what you're feeding me at this point". She drew a shaky breath. "So stop, okay? Don't kiss me, please. It makes me...I don't know".

Obanai could relate whole-heartedly to the feeling. But he kept quiet and nodded. "Of course".

"Why did you do that?"

His head snapped up as she spoke in a slow, wondering voice, her hair gently moving in the wind.

"Because I don't think you would go that far- just to make Mitsuri jealous".

Obanai hated being called out. It felt like he was lying to himself.

"So why did you do it?"

"Why did you go this far?"

I love keeping you guys on your toes :))
