There was no way to resist when the hammer was cocked and a pistol was pressed against my head. I was dragged to the basement of an abandoned farmhouse, tied like a piece of luggage in the back of an old agricultural truck.
Grace watched with sharp, wary eyes the three men who had cornered her into an old bed in the corner as if they were hunting rabbits.
The skinny young man leaning against one wall was a stranger, but his clothes looked familiar. I thought he was a guest who had come upstairs yesterday afternoon. In reality, he was a rebel who had come to check on her location.
"Coolook... ."
Grace's gaze turned to the farthest corner of the basement where the coughing sound was coming from. The middle-aged man sitting on the chair was a sphere.
Robert 'Bobby' Fisher.
Uncle Bobby is still on the side of the interest groups.
Before Grace was caught as a spy, he was the one who warned my brother about what was going to happen and told him not to come back again. My uncle clearly knew about the dirty work the rebels were doing. So I vaguely thought he had already turned his back on them, but I was shockingly wrong.
An even more astonishing figure was glaring at Grace under the dim light.
Fucking Nancy Wilkins.
I read an article about that damned person who survived being shot and escaped. I also frequently saw wanted posters for Nancy, the only one of the three whose identity had been revealed.
So they waited until late at night when there were few people and made a surprise attack. They subdued Grace at the entrance of the building, dragged her into the house, threw an old suitcase at her, and ordered her to pack her things.
Where on earth are you taking me and what are you going to do with me packing my bags?
Along with anxiety came relief.
He said he needed luggage. It meant he didn't plan on killing me right away.
But if this continues, Ellie... .
"Mom...."
Ellie's voice calling her was hoarse. Grace hugged Ellie tighter, making sure she couldn't see anything as she looked around with anxious eyes.
"are you okay."
"Ellie, Kolok, home...."
The child couldn't even finish saying that he wanted to go home and started to sob and cry. He felt that the atmosphere was not good. He felt sorry for the child who was suffering because he had the wrong parents.
"Ellie, I'm sorry. Mom is going to talk to her friend for a bit, so stay asleep."
Grace whispered in Ellie's ear to calm her down and began to act so that the child would not feel anxious.
"long time no see."
Nancy really spoke calmly, as if she were her friend. Of course, Nancy, who had no intention of coordinating with the child, just snorted in disbelief.
"Tell me what you want."
Pity and begging wouldn't work. But maybe bargaining would. Grace was just going to give Nancy what she wanted and take the baby to the hospital as soon as the sun rose.
"Does that mean you have the ability to grant me whatever I want?"
Nancy, who had been standing with her arms folded, strode forward and pushed the filthy traitor's chin up with the muzzle of her gun, laughing.
