Chapter 15

Hardin

Two days after putting in applications I got a couple of call backs but I still haven't heard from Target. I'm hoping that I get a call back from them, it's actually convenient to work there because I can take the train to the area and just walk from the train to the store and go back home taking the same way. But all I can do right now is just pray that something works in my favor. Tessa birthday is this week and I wish I could do something special for her, of course I don't have the funds to give her an expensive gift but I could possibly get some flowers and try to make a dinner for her. She's been doing the cooking and I help her sometimes when I actually know what I'm doing, I also help clean around the house. It's been perfect the past week, let's hope it stays like this.

The afternoon sun shines through the blinds, I'm sitting on the couch waiting for Tessa and Gwen to get ready so she came drop us off at Ms.Celeste house. Tessa has a shift at the hospital and won't be home till late night. Tessa told me I can stay here but I wanted to see Ms.Celeste and spend some time with Gwen. Also it felt weird being in the house without Tessa being here.

I twiddle my thumbs as I wait. They come out a few moment later. Tessa in black scrubs and her hair is in a ponytail. She looks pretty. Gwen is on her side looking down at the floor holding her mother's hand tightly, she's wearing black pants and a blue sweater and converses. She looks just her mother. Tessa walks forward towards me on the couch and sits down right beside me.

"Are you sure you don't wanna stay here, I completely trust you in my home Hardin" She says.

I let out a chuckle. "Tessa I'm fine, I don't wanna be here without you here, it doesn't feel right just yet"

She looks at me and gives me a smile and then leans forward to capture my lips with hers in a quick kiss. We look at Gwen who's just bored, we get up off the couch and we make sure everything is off before leaving out the door. On the way there me and Tessa just make small talk trying to fill the silence. Gwen Doesn't speak but I catch her gaze in the mirror every now and then. I learned Tessa loves to paint small things, she doesn't take it serious but it's just a hobby of hers. I tell her more about my life in London before coming down here, I tell her about my two favorite lads, Felix and Johnathan. We were best friends for the longest, we would do everything together and it was always a fun time with them whether it was good or bad we always enjoyed ourselves. We soon pulled up to Ms.Celeste building and I look off to the side, crazy to think I was just living there a few days ago.

We all get out the car and make our way upstairs. Now that I think about it, I kinda just disappeared without saying anything to Ms.Celeste she probably gonna be wondering where I've been. Tessa knocks on the door and we wait. The door opens and Ms.Celeste eyes connect with mine first and her eyes start to tear up, I quickly step forward and gather her up in my arms. Her tears soak my shirt and I can hear her sniffles. She eventually looks up at me and then her hands reaches up and grabs my ears and pinch them.

"Ow ow ow, that's hard" I say trying to pull away from this crazy lady. She doesn't let go at first but then she sees my pain and lets go.

"Where have you been, I've been so worried?"

"I'm sorry that I worried you Ms.Celeste, Tessa kindly offered me to stay with her until I can get myself on my feet" I say.

Ms. Celeste looks away from me before looking over at Tessa, she looks shocked.

"Hello, Ms.Celeste" Tessa says and waves to her nervously. She goes over to Tessa and gives her a hug and whisper something into her ear, Tessa eyes start to tear up and she has a small smile on her face. Gwen looks up at them confused, Tessa eyes connect with mine and I give her a wink making her blush. She lets go of Tessa and crouch down a little to Gwen a hug and a kiss on the forehead.
