As Aizawa and Hizashi stepped out of the ramen shop, the comforting warmth of the bustling interior faded, giving way to the crisp night air. The street was quiet, illuminated by the soft glow of streetlights that lined their path home. Hizashi, his usual bright energy radiating, glanced over at Aizawa with a playful grin.
“How did you find the ramen? Was it good enough to win you over?” Hizashi asked, teasingly bumping his shoulder against Aizawa’s.
Aizawa, adjusting his scarf against the chill, replied in his typical deadpan, “It was like everytime, decent. I suppose I can tolerate it if it means spending time with you.”
Hizashi’s eyes sparkled with delight. “Aizawa! You’re really coming around!” He laughed, his enthusiasm infectious.
As they walked, a comfortable silence settled between them, broken only by the sound of their footsteps echoing against the pavement.
After a few moments, Hizashi slowed his pace, looking thoughtful. “You know, I really appreciate nights like this. Just hanging out, eating good food…” He hesitated, glancing at Aizawa with a more serious expression. “I like being with you.”
Aizawa felt his heart skip a beat, but he maintained his composed demeanor. “I like being with you too,” he replied softly.
As they approached an intersection, where their paths would soon diverge, Hizashi made a bold move. He reached out, intertwining his fingers with Aizawa’s, holding his hand gently but firmly. “Hey, if we’re dating, we can hold hands, right?” His smile was a mixture of excitement and a hint of nervousness.
Aizawa paused, surprised by the gesture but not uncomfortable. He looked down at their connected hands, feeling the warmth of Hizashi’s grip. “I suppose that’s acceptable,” he said, a slight smirk playing on his lips.
“Acceptable?” Hizashi laughed, his voice light and teasing. “I’ll take that as a yes!”
They continued walking, their hands still linked, the simplicity of the gesture grounding them both. Hizashi filled the air with stories, recounting funny moments from work, his laughter brightening the cool night. Aizawa listened, letting the rhythm of Hizashi’s voice wash over him, feeling an unexpected ease with the closeness between them.
When they finally reached Aizawa’s apartment building, he turned to face Hizashi, still holding his hand. “Well, I guess here is where we say goodnight,” he said, his voice softer, realizing he didn’t want the night to end just yet.
“Yeah,” Hizashi replied, his expression shifting to something more earnest. “I had a great time tonight. Let’s do this again soon, okay? It's a tradition now after all”
Aizawa smiled slightly at Yamada's words "Sure Hizashi, after all you will be the one who's paying" *He said with a hint of teasing"
Hizashi chuckled at Aizawa's playful jab, the sound warm and inviting. “Oh, is that how it’s going to be? You get to be the grumpy one, and I’m stuck paying for your ramen? Seems unfair!” He laughed, his eyes bright with mischief.“Life isn’t fair, Yamada,” Aizawa replied, leaning slightly against the building, enjoying the light banter. “You should know that by now.”
“Touché,” Hizashi said, a smile still playing on his lips. The playful banter was a familiar dance for them, and it made the night feel lighter, less daunting. He glanced at their intertwined hands, a warmth spreading in his chest.
After some minutes of that comfortable silence it was finally time for them to say their goodnights
"I think you should probably start walking back to your home it's getting late" Aizawa commented
"I think you are right. Good night Shota" Hizashi saidThe next morning at U.A. High School was filled with the usual buzz of students arriving for class. Aizawa stifled a yawn as he walked down the corridor, his mind still somewhat foggy from last night’s outing with Hizashi. The memory of their laughter and the warmth of their intertwined fingers lingered with him, a stark contrast to the typical humdrum of school life.
As he entered the staff room, he found a few of his colleagues already there. Present Mic was animatedly recounting a recent incident involving a misunderstanding with his students. Aizawa settled into his usual chair, rubbing his temples in a futile attempt to ease the lingering fatigue.
“Good morning, Aizawa! You look like you’re ready to nap right there!” Hizashi’s cheerful voice cut through the chatter, and Aizawa looked up to see him approaching with a bright smile.
“Good morning,” Aizawa replied, attempting to sound less grumpy than he felt. He took a long sip of his coffee, grateful for the warmth and slight bitterness as he tried to shake off his lingering drowsiness.
Across the room, Midnight was scrolling through her lesson plans, occasionally glancing up. “Mic, you’re awfully chipper this morning,” she commented, raising an eyebrow. “Did something exciting happen?”
“Oh, you know me! Just livin’ life to the fullest,” Hizashi replied, giving Aizawa a wink that only he would catch. Aizawa resisted the urge to roll his eyes, keeping his expression carefully neutral.
Cementoss was going through the stack of papers on his desk, looking up at the pair with a curious look. “Seems like you two are hanging out more than usual. Team-building exercises, maybe?”
Hizashi laughed, waving it off. “Just keeping Shota here social! He’d be a full-on recluse if I wasn’t around, you know?”
Aizawa gave a subtle, sarcastic nod. “And I’m eternally grateful for your...enthusiasm.”
“You’re welcome,” Hizashi replied, grinning brightly as he took the seat beside Aizawa. The others chuckled, assuming this was just the usual banter between the two friends.
Meanwhile, Ectoplasm looked up from his files and nodded toward Aizawa. “You alright, Aizawa? You seem a bit more tired than usual.”
“Late night grading,” Aizawa muttered, not lying but not telling the whole truth either. He was usually known for his exhaustion, but today it felt a bit more… noticeable. He glanced sidelong at Hizashi, who seemed to be stifling a smile.
“Oh, speaking of which,” Midnight said, shuffling through some papers, “anyone else feel like the students are getting more creative with their assignments lately? I mean, I have to give them points for effort, but some of these essays… I’m not sure whether to be impressed or concerned.”
Hizashi laughed. “My class did a whole thing on the ‘ethics of hero slogans.’ You wouldn’t believe how many think my ‘present Mic’ intro is a crime against humanity.”
Cementoss chuckled. “Let’s just say they’re getting better at loopholes and persuasive arguments.”
“Future lawyers, all of them,” Aizawa murmured, almost to himself. The others laughed, and the morning slipped into the usual flow of lesson prep, paperwork, and coffee refills.
At one point, Midnight leaned over and nudged Aizawa’s arm. “By the way, you and Mic should think about joining us for karaoke sometime. It might do you some good to let loose.”
Aizawa raised an eyebrow. “I’ll pass.”
But Hizashi was already beaming. “I’m in! And maybe I’ll convince Shota to come along for the ride, yeah?”
As the others voiced their excitement for the idea, Aizawa felt a mix of exasperation and amusement. Hizashi’s energy was, as usual, an unstoppable force. But under the surface, Aizawa found himself almost… appreciating it. The steady flow of jokes and camaraderie somehow made the morning more bearable, the fatigue a bit less pressing.
He knew that later on, things would go back to quiet professionalism as they moved into their classes. But for now, he allowed himself to enjoy the comfortable chaos, letting Hizashi’s infectious energy fill the gaps in his own usual solitude.
