The plan was in motion.
Dazai, for once, felt something resembling nervousness. It wasn't often that he found himself second-guessing his usually perfect strategies, but this was different. Today wasn't about outsmarting enemies or planning elaborate schemes. Today was about Y/N—the woman who had turned his life upside down and made him see the world in a different light. The woman he was about to propose to.
He leaned back in his chair at the Agency, twirling a pen between his fingers as his eyes scanned the room. Everyone was in on it—well, almost everyone. The president, Fukuzawa, was on board with the plan, as were the rest of his colleagues: Atsushi, Ranpo, Yosano, Kunikida, and even Kyouka. They had all agreed to help make this moment as special as possible for Y/N.
And then there was Chuuya. Surprisingly, he had agreed to help without much resistance—though he had demanded one thing in return. Dazai had to ask him to be the man of honor, a role he reluctantly accepted but also teased Dazai about for days.
But the hardest part? Asking Mori for assistance. The very thought of it made Dazai cringe, but Mori had connections that could make this proposal even more memorable. With his signature creepy smile, Mori had agreed but made sure to remind Dazai how ironic it was that the infamous "Dazai Osamu" had come to him for help on something as sentimental as a proposal.
"What's the plan?" Chuuya's voice broke Dazai's thoughts as he leaned against the doorframe of the office.
Dazai turned to look at him, his usual smug grin plastered across his face. "It's all falling into place. I'm taking her out for a fancy dinner tonight—she has no idea what's coming."
Chuuya crossed his arms, narrowing his eyes. "You better not mess this up. After everything the two of you have been through, the least you can do is make this moment perfect."
"I'm offended you would doubt my capabilities, Chuuya," Dazai replied with mock seriousness. "But thank you for agreeing to help. I can't think of anyone better to stand beside me than the man who's been through all our 'bullshit,' as you put it."
Chuuya scoffed, though there was a hint of a smile at the corner of his lips. "Yeah, well, you owe me for this. Big time."
Dazai chuckled before standing up, pocketing the small velvet box that held the ring. "Now if you'll excuse me, I need to make sure everything's set up perfectly. Tonight's the night."

Meanwhile, across town, Y/N was in the midst of getting ready, completely unaware of what was about to happen. Yosano and Kyouka had taken charge of her transformation, ensuring she looked as stunning as possible for what she believed was just a fancy date with Dazai.
Y/N sat in front of the mirror as Yosano carefully applied the finishing touches of white eyeliner, the soft shimmer making her eyes stand out. Kyouka had already curled her hair into soft waves, half of it pinned up, while the other half flowed down her back in loose strands.
"Are you nervous?" Kyouka asked, a small smile tugging at her lips as she handed Y/N a delicate lip gloss.
Y/N shrugged, though a smile played on her lips. "Not really. I mean, it's Dazai. Fancy dates aren't exactly his style, so I'm just wondering what he's up to."
Yosano smirked, brushing a bit of blush onto Y/N's cheeks. "You'll find out soon enough. Trust me, he's pulling out all the stops tonight."
Y/N chuckled, turning to look at the two women who had been like sisters to her. "Thank you, both of you. I feel... beautiful."
"You look beautiful," Kyouka said quietly, stepping back to admire their work.
Y/N's eyes traveled over her reflection—she was wearing a stunning blue dress, the fabric flowing gracefully around her, delicate and light. The color complimented her skin perfectly, and the dress itself was a mix of elegance and simplicity. The white eyeliner and subtle lip gloss added just the right amount of detail, making her feel like she was glowing.
As Y/N stood up, the two women exchanged knowing glances, their excitement barely contained. They knew what tonight held, and they couldn't wait to see Y/N's reaction.
"Well, you're ready," Yosano declared, stepping back with a satisfied grin. "Now go knock him dead."
Y/N laughed, a mix of anticipation and curiosity swirling in her chest. "If I didn't know better, I'd say you two were up to something."
"Maybe we are, maybe we aren't," Kyouka said with a smirk, but she kept her lips sealed.
With one last look at herself in the mirror, Y/N grabbed her bag and made her way out, her heart racing just a little faster. Dazai had said it was going to be a special night, but what exactly was he planning?
—
The restaurant Dazai had chosen was unlike anything Y/N had ever seen him pick before. It was upscale, with candlelit tables and a view overlooking the city. The atmosphere was intimate, quiet, and undeniably romantic. As she stepped inside, her eyes widened in surprise.
"Dazai?" Y/N said, her voice full of curiosity as she saw him waiting for her, dressed sharply in a dark suit. He flashed her his signature grin but with a softer edge tonight.
"You look breathtaking," Dazai said, holding out a hand as she approached.
"Are we really going all out tonight?" Y/N teased, though she couldn't hide the excitement in her voice. "You never do fancy dinners."
"Ah, but tonight is special," Dazai replied, his eyes sparkling. "Besides, I wanted to spoil you a little."
They shared a quiet, intimate dinner, the conversation light and filled with laughter. Y/N was relaxed, her heart fluttering with every teasing remark Dazai made, though she couldn't shake the feeling that there was something more. As the night wore on, she noticed a glint of something in Dazai's eye—something that suggested he was up to far more than a simple dinner date.
After dessert, they stepped outside onto the balcony, the city lights twinkling below them. The cool breeze brushed against Y/N's skin, and she shivered slightly, stepping closer to Dazai for warmth.
And then, just as the moment seemed perfect, Dazai turned to her, his hand slipping into his pocket. His eyes met hers, serious yet warm, as he slowly knelt down on one knee, pulling out the small velvet box.
"Y/N," Dazai began, his voice unusually steady. "You've been my constant, my light in the darkest times, and the person I never thought I'd be lucky enough to meet. You've changed my life in ways I can't even begin to describe, and I want to spend the rest of my life trying to make you as happy as you've made me."
Y/N's breath hitched, her heart pounding in her chest as Dazai opened the box, revealing a stunning ring that glimmered in the soft moonlight.
"So, what do you say?" Dazai asked, his lips curling into a hopeful smile. "Will you marry me?"
Tears filled Y/N's eyes as she nodded, her voice barely a whisper. "Yes... of course, yes!"
Dazai slipped the ring onto her finger before standing and pulling her into a tight embrace, his lips finding hers in a sweet, lingering kiss.
From a distance, Chuuya watched with a rare smile on his face. He had given Dazai hell for years, but at this moment, he had to admit—his old rival had done something right.
For the first time, Dazai Osamu had found his true home, and that was with Y/N
