The kitchen of Y/N and Dazai's apartment was a whirlwind of activity. Flour dusted the countertops, bowls of colorful frosting lined the table, and the sweet smell of freshly baked treats filled the air. It was a day meant for nothing but culinary creativity, and the plan was simple: make an assortment of sweet treats for the Armed Detective Agency. From cupcakes to dango, they were going all out.
"Do you think we made enough?" Y/N asked as she piped delicate swirls of frosting onto a tray of strawberry cupcakes.
Dazai, who was standing next to her mixing a bowl of chocolate frosting, gave her a mischievous grin. "Enough? I think we might be able to start our own bakery with all this."
Y/N chuckled, but her eyes sparkled with excitement. "Everyone in the Agency is going to love this. We've got strawberry, chocolate, and vanilla cupcakes, dango, and even cakes."
"And don't forget the 'secret ingredient,'" Dazai added with a wink, licking a bit of chocolate frosting off his finger.
Y/N raised an eyebrow, catching onto his playful mood. "What secret ingredient?"
"Love, of course." Dazai moved closer, his tone teasing.
Y/N blushed, trying to focus on icing the last cupcake. "Right... love."
The two of them had been baking for hours, but the atmosphere in the kitchen was light and filled with laughter. They made a perfect team—Y/N brought order and precision to the chaos while Dazai added a playful touch to everything, making even the simplest tasks feel like an adventure.
"I think the dango is almost done," Y/N said, stirring the pot with the skewers lined up beside her.
Dazai set his bowl of frosting down, leaning in close. "You know, Y/N, I think you've been working a little too hard."
She glanced at him, confusion written on her face. "What do you mean?"
Before she could react, Dazai snaked his arms around her waist from behind, pulling her against him. He leaned in, pressing a soft kiss to her neck, his breath warm against her skin.
"D-Dazai?" Y/N stuttered, her cheeks flushing bright red.
"I just thought you could use a little... distraction," Dazai whispered in her ear, planting another kiss on her cheek, his lips brushing the corner of her mouth.
Y/N's heart raced, her mind suddenly blanking out on the dango she was supposed to be watching. She turned in his arms, her hands still sticky with frosting, but her thoughts were miles away from the kitchen. His gaze, dark and playful, met hers, and before she could say anything, Dazai closed the gap, kissing her again—this time on the lips.
It was soft at first, a sweet gesture that quickly deepened as Dazai's hands cupped her face. Y/N felt her knees weaken, and despite herself, she leaned into the kiss. Her hands, covered in frosting, ended up smudging against his shirt, but neither of them seemed to care.
When they broke apart, Y/N was breathless, her face a brilliant shade of pink. "W-We have to finish baking, you know," she managed to say, her voice shaky.
"Do we, though?" Dazai smirked, not letting her go.
"Yes! The Agency is waiting for us," she tried to protest, though it came out much weaker than intended.
"Oh, come on," Dazai teased, his fingers tracing the side of her face, "a few more minutes won't hurt. Besides, who cares if we're a little late?"
Y/N gave him a flustered look, trying to free herself from his grip, but every movement seemed to bring them closer. Just as she turned to try and regain her composure, Dazai pulled her back for another kiss—this one deeper and more lingering. Her resistance melted away as her arms wrapped around him.
When Dazai finally let her go, Y/N found herself a blushing mess, practically sinking to the floor as her legs gave out. She covered her face with her hands, trying to cool the heat that had rushed to her cheeks.
"Dazai, you—" she began, but her words were lost in her embarrassment.
Dazai chuckled, kneeling beside her on the kitchen floor. "What? I was just giving you the 'secret ingredient' we talked about earlier."
Y/N playfully swatted his arm, though she couldn't stop the giggles from bubbling up. "I'm covered in frosting, you're covered in frosting, and we're nowhere near done."
"We're almost done," he corrected, helping her back up to her feet. "Besides, I'd say the cupcakes look pretty delicious now, wouldn't you?"
Y/N shook her head, still flustered but smiling. "You're impossible."
"Impossibly charming, you mean," Dazai quipped, picking up a dango skewer. "Come on, let's finish up so we can head to the Agency."
An hour later, the treats were neatly packed into boxes, and the kitchen was somewhat clean again. Y/N had managed to calm her racing heart, though every glance Dazai threw her way reminded her of their earlier "distraction."
When they finally arrived at the Armed Detective Agency, they were greeted with raised eyebrows and questioning looks.
"You're late," Kunikida said, immediately stepping forward, arms crossed and a stern expression on his face. "What took you so long? We've been waiting."
Y/N looked at Dazai, who was grinning from ear to ear. She bit her lip, trying to suppress her laughter. "We... uh... had a little distraction."
Kunikida narrowed his eyes. "Distraction?"
Dazai put an arm around Y/N's shoulders, his grin widening. "Nothing to worry about, Kunikida. Just a little... detour on the way here."
Y/N, her face still flushed, couldn't meet Kunikida's eyes. "We were... um, distracted."
Kunikida groaned, clearly catching on. "I don't want to know, do I?"
"No, you don't," Y/N muttered under her breath, embarrassed but amused.
As Kunikida opened his mouth to launch into a lecture about professionalism and punctuality, Atsushi peeked over, eyeing the boxes of treats. "Ooh, cupcakes! And dango too!"
"See? All is forgiven," Dazai said, handing Atsushi a cupcake. "Enjoy, everyone."
As the rest of the agency crowded around the table, eager to grab a sweet treat, Kunikida finally sighed, shaking his head. "Next time, don't let your 'distractions' make you late."
Y/N giggled, glancing at Dazai. "We'll try our best."
Dazai winked at her, taking a bite of a strawberry cupcake. "But no promises."
