"That's enough for now," Dante told Jess and James as they finished dusting the living room. "If you would please return to your rooms tonight, I need to prepare prince for bed."
I just scrolled through my phone as I sat on the couch.
"What is he the prince of...?" James said excitedly.
Jess just caught his arm. "Don't ask questions! It's our first day! Maybe later, okay?"
James just bowed before us. "Good night, master!"
"Good night!" Jess said, bowing, as well.
They then exited the room to get to theirs.
"You picked rather... routey ones," I told Dante, setting my phone aside. "Are you sure they aren't just going to take my money and run?"
He glanced down with a smile. "My, my. Have some faith in me, master."
I just rolled my eyes and shifted onto the couch. "Alright, whatever."
"So when do you want to start your schooling?" Dante asked me picking up my glass of water as he made it to the kitchen. "We should start soon if you're going to drop out of college."
"You know I never really said I wanted to drop out of college," I stated in annoyance.
Dante just smiled and set the glass in the sink. "Tell me... did you really want to be a psychology major?"
My lips thinned then, and my lashes lowered.
"Master?"
"What right do you have, questioning me?"
"I have every right," Dante stated then, stepping back over to the living room. "I follow your wishes, after all."
I remained silent then.
"Master, can I ask you something?"
"You're just going to ask anyway."
He smirked a little. "Your wish for me... you asked me if you could help save people. Is that what you want to do with your life?"
I just gazed up. "So what if it is?"
"Why did you major in psychology if you wanted to be a detective?" he asked me then.
I just closed my eyes tightly, and I gazed up at him after a moment. "Being a detective is a dangerous job, Dante."
"And yet you have me now."
"Your point?"
He just shifted more onto his feet. "Master, you might've been in a bad place before you got money to go to college—"
"And now I have too much money," I stated, closing my eyes tightly. "Too much to know what to do with."
"And," Dante continued, lashes lowering over red eyes, "you have much experience in psychology, do you not?"
"Yes." I gave him a suspicious look.
"If you want to be a good detective," Dante said then, smirking slightly, "you must know every possible thing. You must know medical terminology, you must know psychology, you must know anatomy, you must know problem-solving skills, reading micro expressions."
"Wow, just say I have to know everything at this point," I stated sarcastically.
"That is precisely it," Dante stated then.
"You're asking for the impossible." I stood, about to go to my room.
He caught my shoulders and pushed me back down onto the couch. "I am not. You are very bright, my prince. And I can teach you everything. It might take years, but I can."
I just sighed, lashes fluttering shut. "What do you want?"
"To grant your wish," he stated then, smirking. "Let's get you a house, let's get everything settled, and then the schooling begins. I will teach you everything. And you will truly be the Prince of Hell. You will save the world from angels, daem, and humans."
"With you by my side?" I questioned.
"You do the investigating," he said, bowing before me before gazing up with a dark smile. "I will be the enforcer."
I arched a brow. "Meaning?"
"I will kill," he promised me with a dark smile, "I will mutilate. I will extract physical pain. No one will suspect you, my Prince. You might look small—"
I glared at him.
"But that will be your leverage."
I blinked, brows drawing together.
"No angel, demon, or human will suspect you are capable of what you are," he said then, eyes glowing a slight red.
"Because you have me."
