"Are you sure you're able to fly on your own? Even after you... Bonded with Venom, you still kept your massive fear of heights Eddie." Anne said over the phone, Eddie could hear Dan somewhere in the background, it soon came to him that she was engaged, She wasn't his Anne anymore. "Well this time I'll be inside the plane, that parasite was the main reason for half of that.." Eddie Paused, he stopped talking for so long that Anne's words of concern were completely tuned out. Parasite.
The mention of even the word brought him to a state of panic. Memories flooded his head and that feeling of dust settling in his brain returned. For a moment he could have sworn he felt his heart hurt. "No, he's not a parasite, I don't know why I said that." He spoke after a draining five minutes. Anne sighed and swallowed hard. "Eddie, he was a parasite. It fed off of your organs when you didn't feed it chocolate, that's a parasite." She tried to sound reassuring, but she sounded annoyed, which led to more hurt in his chest. "Whatever he was, he saved me from dying, so be respectful, Anne." Eddie put his phone between his shoulder and his ear so he could pack his things into a small carry on. His apartment in San Francisco still had a few essentials, and was in decent condition as he had tried to pay Anne to clean it for him, but she did it for free.
Anne didn't make a comment on how Eddie defended Venom. It was clear Anne resented Venom for all the pain he caused to Eddie. He didn't blame her, he never has. The night before had been a whirlwind of events, he bought a plane ticket to San Francisco, and he was on book to fly the following Tuesday, or in four days. Dan and Anne would pick him up at the airport but would take him to his apartment afterwards. He knew the apartment would be filled with dust, just like his brain, and his thoughts. "Look, Anne I'll call you back, I uh- need to call my therapist and let her know that I'll be gone for a while. I'll keep in touch." Eddie went to end the call before Anne could try and keep him on the line.
He wasn't lying when he said he needed to call his therapist, he did end up calling her, and the woman seemed glad that Eddie took her thoughts to heart. She said that she'd plan to speak with him over the phone as their meetings were government mandated. She wished him safe travels and Eddie went back to his packing. He could have done this the day of but he didn't want to forget. Not only was his head bare but it seemed Venom took his sense of memory with him.
Eddie missed Venom, but a good portion of his memories of the Symbiote were blurred. He couldn't pinpoint what was real and what was made up to keep him content.-
The girl found herself wandering down the streets of Las Vegas. She was to leave the next day for San Francisco, so she had time to kill, and lots of it. In her ears was a strange ringing and brought discomfort with it. Her eyes darted around as she took pictures from her handheld camera, though there was a strange look in her reflection every time she looked in the lens. She was cold, even if the atmosphere was humid. The buildings were much more enthusiastic than where she grew up, it felt nice to have a change of scenery.
Hungry.
The voice came from inside her head and she made a sound that was scream-like. Strangers looked at her strangely, and she quickly made herself smaller, moving in her shoulders and crossing her arms tightly. She whispered apologies and kept on walking. One man kept an eye on her, she saw him and tried even harder to make herself look small. He followed her for another block before she finally confronted him.
"Are you following me?" She stammered. Her lips quivered. She visually looked cold. The man judged her closely. "Why did you scream earlier?" His question was direct, and she became embarrassed immensely. "I- I thought I heard something. Please leave me alone."Food.
She screamed again and moved away from the man. "You didn't- hear- no. Leave me alone!" She shouted and ran off into the crowd. She ran for ten minutes before moving into an alleyway and sitting against a trash can. The way the alley was formed made it so the main street couldn't see where she was. It was 'L' shaped.
The hunger rose in her and it was like she couldn't control herself. She tore open the trash can and searched desperately for anything to eat, and when she did, she didn't think twice before shoving it into her mouth. She tore rotting meat from bones and she didn't stop there. No matter how much she ate and tore apart, nothing seemed to satisfy the hunger. Two minutes of torture for her stomach, she gave out. It was a gag and then full vomit. She laid on the ground for a few more minutes, collecting herself.
A mouse left a hole in the wall, and the hunger came back. In her eyes a white mask washed over, and she lost her control again. She lunged for the mouse and tore off its head with her teeth. Blood spilled down her face. The girl inside her, Charlie Kitts, was mortified, but something else inside her wanted more. She didn't stop until it was just bones, and of course she vomited everything she ate. She felt sick, very sick. "What is wrong with me?" She looked at her hands, covered in blood. Her face was too.
Charlie took out her bag and took the last of her water and poured it over her head. She used her sweater to wipe off the blood. She was now even colder and she tore off the sweater and shoved it in her bag. She used a pocket mirror to make sure she got all the blood. When she was sure she was okay, she left the alleyway.
The second she left the alleyway she was quickly face to face with the same man from before. "Look kid, where are your parents?" The man crossed his arms. Charlie backed away. "They are uh.. In the car waiting for me. Leave me alone." Charlie kept walking away, quickly. She didn't stop, and the man kept following her. Since she was looking behind herself, she didn't notice the man ahead of her until she ran into him. She looked at him. She risked a lot asking; "Please help me."
The man following Charlie caught up to her. The man she asked for help put his hand on her shoulder. "Why are you following my daughter?" The man scowled. The other's eyes widened. "Daughter? I didn't-" He looked between Charlie and the man he presumed was her father. He frowned, and walked away. Charlie looked at the stranger and fell into tears. "Thank you, thank you so much.!"
The man moved his hand from her shoulder. "Are you alone out here? Do you have parent's? I'm not leaving you on your own until I can make sure you're safe..- My name is Eddie Brock, what's yours?"
"My name is Charlie.. I uh. I don't know where my parents are, that's the problem." She crossed her hands and looked down. Eddie looked at her and sighed. "How old are you, Charlie? You can't be out here on your own."
"I'm sixteen, Mr. Brock. You don't happen to have something I can eat? I'm starving.." She hugged herself, still visibly cold. Eddie nodded and took out a chocolate bar. "That's all I got." He handed it to her, and she took it. "I can call your parent's if you need me to?" She shook her head no quickly. "I said it wrong. It's not that I don't know where they are, it's that they abandoned me here." Her lip quivered again.
"Do you need a place to stay?" He asked, Charlie nodded, tears slowly drying up as her face went red and puffy. "You can come to my apartment for now, but I don't know if you can stay forever. I have a flight to San Fran on Tuesday."
"That's perfect! I leave tomorrow for San Fran.. I'll just have to find somewhere to stay- I hope I'm not intruding. I just- I'm alone and I'm scared and I think I'm hearing things.."
Eddie smiled, slightly. "I'll try my best to take care of you, I've been through.. Similar things, don't worry kid. Let's go." He put his hands in his pockets and led the way.-
Charlie had gone to sleep. He let her sleep in his room while he plans to sleep on the sofa. He told her he'd call the flight agency and switch her tickets to the Tuesday. For some odd reason, Eddie was becoming paranoid over protecting the girl.
You'd be a good dad, Eddie.
Eddie remembered Venom had told him something along the lines of that, it made his heart throb. Even worse, it resonated with him.
