Eddie's heart dropped. His mouth fell ajar and his eyes widened. All the sense he thought this situation made just vanished. Nothing made sense anymore. Why would Venom want to hide from him? After everything the two had gone through, he just chose to avoid him while being so damn close.
Through the small gap in the door he looked in. Charlie was facing away from the door. Two Symbiotes came out of the same space in her back, webbed like things connected to her clothes. It made Eddie realise that he's never actually seen what it looks like from behind when a Symbiote leaves him. It was fascinating, but terrifying when it wasn't his Symbiote. When it was his he had nothing to worry about.
The two Symbiotes almost circled around the sides of her and met again in front of her to face her. Venom was facing away, and was clearly larger than the other. What he assumed what Nerov on the other side of her, was a Symbiote that wasn't made like Venom. It was built out of fifty percent black goo of sorts, and the rest was made out of small vein-like tubes. That explained the name. It resembled a human nervous system.
Venom turned to face the door, before he could see Eddie, he had moved.
Eddie sat on the couch, his heart racing like never before. He wasn't insane, he was right all along. Charlie has two Symbiotes and one of them was Venom. The weight of the ring on his hand felt heavy. It felt like it was made of lead and was eventually going to carry him to the earth's core. Even if that sounded like a good idea at this point, he needed to figure out what was going on with Charlie.
Eddie realised something, Venom knew what MRIs did, and he'd make an effort to avoid them at all costs. And besides that he had no way of getting the symbiotes out by force, besides fire. But he had no plans of setting Charlie and the Symbiotes on fire any time soon.
He took out his phone but it was taken away. An arm of black took it right out of his hands and right back to Charlie.
"Were you eavesdropping on our conversation, Eddie?" Charlie frowned. Eddie paled. He was used to being on the other end of this, him having the Symbiote on his side. Now he understood why it was so terrifying to see.
"Charlie, it's for your safety." He said quickly, his eyes darting between the two monstrous heads next to her.
He knew Venom, and even though his expression visually never changed, he learned how to separate hate from fear. Venom was afraid of something Eddie didn't know about.
"Safety or not, that's disrespectful. I-." she paused. "We deserve privacy." After she spoke, the two Symbiotes dissolved back into her. Eddie couldn't move. He felt like it was the first time he saw the Symbiote. When he first saw Venom, attached to him. When he was his Symbiote.
"Right. Yeah. You's go get rest, I need a drink." He waved his hand at her to gesture for her to leave. She stood there for a second, then compiled. Eddie went to the fridge and took out two bottles, then went to get the phone that Venom dropped onto the floor after Charlie assessed it. He slouched back onto the sofa and sighed long and heavily. Tomorrow was going to be hectic and he knew that.
Eddie texted Dan and filled him in. It was weird that he was higher on his most texted list than Anne, especially that when they first met, he hated him. He tried to hide it but Anne most certainly knew his opinion on her boyfriend at the time.-
Dan sat Charlie down in the small meeting room. It was just the two of them. Eddie wanted to give her space to talk to Dan, and afterwards Eddie would fill in the gaps. Charlie seemed zoned out, like she was listening to someone. She was, and Dan knew that. He sat there and allowed her to finish her conversation. She looked up at Dan, a short smile on her face.
"So, Charlie, How have you been feeling lately?" He began, sitting on a small rolling stool and picking up the clipboard from the counter.
"Weird. My head is constantly full of sounds. Well. I'm sure Eddie told you that I have something of a parasite in my head."
"He told me you have two, actually." Dan protested. "Would I be able to speak with one or both of them?"
Charlie took a second to answer, before one of the Symbiotes slowly created a physical form for Dan. No matter how much he tried to hide it, the sight of Symbiotes still terrified him. He slowly paled before finding his composure once again.
"Hello Dan. We have heard of you before." The Symbiote spoke. It didn't look like Venom so out of process of elimination, the one speaking to him was Neurov.
Dan's breath caught in his throat. "Have you? Interesting. Well.. Neurov. Would you mind if we did a few tests on the few of you? Nothing that will cause harm. Simply an assessment." He did his best to stay calm but the presence of the being just made him very anxious. The way it moved, spoke. Its voice was distorted and cold. He could see as the vein-like strips on it pulsated like a heartbeat.
"Nothing that will hurt me or Charlie." Neurov didn't specify Venom. Dan took a mental note that it seemed like Neurov and Venom could be fighting to have the host.
In the past, the Symbiotes Dan had seen didn't get along with each other. It could be that Venom and Neurov were fighting each other. One of them wanted full control.
"It won't do any harm. Promise." Dan stood up, and Charlie followed suit.
Dan took her down a few hallways towards a room. The same room Dan and Anne extracted Venom from Eddie's body a few months prior. He kept an eye on Charlie to see if Venom gave any warning. Dan directed her to the MRI and set her in.
Before the machine started, Eddie and Anne entered the room. As soon as Eddie closed the door, Charlie began to force herself out of the machine. Dan gave Eddie the look, and he pressed his hand onto the button to start the MRI. Eddie fought his panic as the sound frequency skyrocketed.
It all happened fast. Charlie quickly put her hands over her ears, and the short black hair around them pushed back slightly enough that he could see a set of hearing aids.
Worst part about having no medical records for Charlie is that they had no idea she was completely deaf in both ears. Shit. Eddie thought to himself.
Charlie screamed. It came out distorted, and he could see as the Symbiotes began to tear themselves from her as she tried her best to tear out her hearing aids. And by the luck of the draw, she wasn't able to get them out before the Symbiotes tore from her. She managed to just after. Anne opened the door and pulled her out and forced the doors shut again. Charlie couldn't hear what Anne was trying to tell her, she couldn't hear anything.
Dan assumed that Eddie would get Venom out of there, but he didn't. He just watched as the two piles of parasites squirmed around and pushed each other. Dan closed the vent in the room so that the Symbiotes couldn't get out.
They took their eyes off Charlie for one second and she had opened the door and reached for the Symbiotes but only got one of them. Neurov. Eddie was faster. Eddie pulled Venom away to avoid her being more powerful. He wanted to avoid having her above the rest of them. Charlie bolted out the doors and down the halls. Eddie chased after her, but lost her at a staircase.
Eddie realised that Venom never actually absorbed into him, he just perched on his shoulder, but the high oxygen levels made Venom comply.
"Neurov will kill Charlie on his own. You can't let them get out, and no one can see him." Venom's voice broke the pained silence inside of his head. Dust withered away and a window opened letting outside sound back in. No matter what Venom were to say, it felt like home.
"Eddie. Now." A jolt forced him towards another hallway, and it was back to the chase.
