Months passed, and life in Oak Ridge slowly began to return to normal. The people who had been caught in the web of Gwen Meadows' manipulation started to rebuild their lives. The families of the victims tried, in their own ways, to heal, though they knew they could never forget the children they had lost.
Carter returned to his work, but the case of the Meadows family would never leave him. He had solved the puzzle, unmasked the killers, and brought justice to Oak Ridge. But the cost had been high. The deaths of those children, the brutal reminder of what had been done in the name of power, haunted him every day.
As he stood on the porch of his small home one evening, looking out over the town that had been torn apart by secrets, Carter couldn't shake the feeling that there was still something lurking in the shadows. The darkness that had been sown so many years ago had been rooted deep in Oak Ridge. It had claimed lives, taken families, and changed the town forever.
But now, at least for a time, the game was over. Gwen Meadows was dead. And Oak Ridge could finally breathe.
At least, for now.
