Carter couldn't sleep that night. The message in the box, the cryptic warning, weighed heavily on him. He had to figure out who Elias Blackwood was, and whether the man had somehow resurfaced—or if someone had taken up his dark legacy. The idea that someone had been orchestrating this "game" all along made his blood run cold.
The next morning, Carter went back to the Turner house. It had been hours since the police had last seen Cody's parents, and he knew they were on edge. They needed answers.
When he arrived, however, he found the house empty. No sign of life. The windows were shut, the front door locked, but there was no one inside.
The sheriff arrived soon after, his face grim. "They're gone, Carter. Cody's family. Vanished. No note, no trace."
Carter's mind snapped to the worst possibility—someone was using the game to manipulate the town, moving people around like pawns in a twisted chess match. And it wasn't just the children who were at risk. Everyone in Oak Ridge was now a player in Blackwood's sick game.
Then, Carter received the call he'd been dreading.
There had been another body found.
This time, it wasn't just a child. It was one of their own.
And it was clear that, no matter how much Carter wanted to stop it, the game had only just begun.
