Chapter 9: Strange Dreams

The sound of the news and chattering greeted Amy as she went inside the pack house. Aaden looked at her, anxiety was written all over his face.

“Who do you think did all of those?” asked one of the pack members.

“I don’t know. It sure as hell isn’t our pack. We’ve stopped hunting for the last three years,” Caleb exclaimed.

“Maybe it’s the Solaris?” Jonathan, Amy’s Beta, offered.

“What’s going on here?” At the sound of her voice, all their heads snapped to her direction. Slowly, they looked back at the huge television.

“… There had been speculations of wolves and other types of predators attacking both domesticated and wild animals around the area… The animals were mangled into pieces, almost making it hard to identify them… Please be careful when you go out in the woods!” said a news reporter. Amy looked closely and saw the animals. They were torn into pieces. She didn’t get any of this! But she knew that she had to do something about it. This might endanger her pack.

“Alright! Everyone,” Amy tried to silence them but their whispers overpowered her. She took a deep breath and screamed, “QUIET!” Everyone whimpered at the sound of her voice. They all bowed their heads.

She cleared her throat and began, “I want you all to be more cautious. Do not shift until you feel like you really need to. Only the ones who run the perimeter are allowed to shift and roam about in our land. I do not know what we’re up against. It could be the Solaris and it could be some rogues. Either way, we must all be careful. Absolutely no more hunting, for those who still hunt secretly. Pack meeting, dismissed.”  At this, everyone nodded. One by one, they departed to their rooms. Amy went to her office to read.

She scanned through the stacks of books and found one. The book cover was all black and had no title. It was very dusty too. She looked at the first page and noticed that it wasn’t just a book. It was a journal! She flipped through the pages, causing a picture to fall. Glancing at the picture, she gasped. It can’t be!

Staring back at her was a pair of golden eyes. It was as if she was looking through a mirror! Could it be? She flipped the picture and looked at the writing.

‘ Aaliyah and Nathaniel Reale ‘

It was really them! Her mother and father. That must have meant that one of them owned the journal. She set the picture down on her desk and started to skim.

“… Aaliyah and I were thrilled at having our first child…. The elders called us up and told us that we cannot be with her. They stated that it was far too dangerous with our mission going on… I now understand. It may be painful but we have to let her go… The Cold ones are out there, and they must be stopped!”

The Cold Ones! They might’ve been the reason why her parents left. But who were they? She has never heard of them or even read about them. She studied her history in Italy, where most of the werewolf history books are found.

Her eyes started to get droopy and before she knew it, sleep overtook her.

She opened her eyes and found that she slept in the office. She looked around and gasped at how clean and new it looked.

“Aaliyah, darling!” A masculine voice rang through the door. Amy shuffled around, until she found a hiding spot.

“Yes, my love?” A sweet voice made Amy’s ears perk up.
