Chapter 11

“Wangji?” A gentle voice broke the Light Bearing Lord out of his memory lane. Lan Wangji blinked, he felt a soft thumb brushing under his eye lovingly and only then did he realize that he was crying.

“Xiongzhang.” The younger bowed, even though his mind was in turmoil, he did not forget his etiquettes.

Lan Xichen gave his brother a concerned look before shifting his gaze to the unconscious man on the bed. His eyes widen in shock, when he entered the room earlier he did not notice him because he was worried about his little brother.

After all, the First Jade has not seen his brother since after breakfast, it was already lunchtime and the latter did not show up so he decided to come check on his brother. Lan Xichen knocked on the door however, when no one answered the door, the sect leader let himself in and was shocked to find his brother crying.

His younger brother has not shed a tear since the day Wei Wuxian jumped off the cliff of Nevernight 16 years ago and Lan Xichen knew that he was losing his brother day by day. A Lan only loves once after all and once the person they love dies, it will tear them apart from the inside little by little until they become a shell of who they used to be.

If that person is their soulmate then it’s only a matter of days before they too die of a heartbreak. Lan Wangji had only survived because of the child Wei Wuxian left behind when he died, after all, the Demonic Cultivator had taken in the child as his own and being his soulmate, Lan Wangji automatically considered the boy as his too.

“Wangji, what is going on? Young Master Wei died, did he not? How come he is here now?”

Hanguang Jun looked at his soulmate before turning to his brother, “Wangji does not know. Wei Ying came home last night.”

“You did not ask?” Lan Xichen raised a curious brow at his brother. He already knew the answer but he wanted to listen to his brother’s reasoning.

“Wangji does not care. Xiongzhang, Wangji has a confession to make.” The younger looked at his brother.

Zewu Jun studied his brother for a while, the younger’s face showed no emotions but his eyes held guilt in them. For the past 16 years that the First Jade had looked into his brother’s golden eyes, they have been filled with immense pain but he could not detect any pain now.

He wondered why his brother was so guilty, it might be because he sneaked in his soulmate late at night and did not inform him about it or it might be because he brought the very man who was hated by the cultivation world into Cloud Recesses thus putting the entire Sect in danger.

“What is it, Wangji?”

“Wangji knows he broke many rules last night. He sneaked Wei Ying in after curfew and did not inform Xiongzhang. Wangji is ready for punishment.” The man bowed to his brother.

The Sect leader helped his brother stand properly, “Wangji, I know that you will take responsibility for your actions but I will not punish you. I have seen you die from within over the years and I had been terrified of losing you. After losing mother and father, you are the only family I have apart from uncle.”

The first Jade turned to the man on the bed. “You have never asked for anything, Didi [little brother], Young Master Wei makes you happy. You have never been wrong and you were always a good judge of character so if you believe in him then he must be innocent. I did not give you a chance before, I failed as your brother and I failed him as a Sect leader. I should have given him a chance to explain, I regret what happened 16 years ago, now that he is here, I will do whatever I can to help the both of you.”

“Wangji thanks Xiongzhang.”

Before the two brothers could continue with their discussion, they were interrupted by soft whimpers from the bed, Lan Wangji quickly rushed over and sat beside his soulmate. Zewu Jun stood at the side worriedly as he watched his brother check Wei Wuxian’s pulse before touching the latter’s forehead to check his temperature. All the while, Wei Wuxian was whimpering, his face was crunched up in pain and he was sweating profusely.
