The silence between Taehyung and Jungkook was like a bitter chill, creeping into the spaces that once held warmth and laughter. It had been days since that terrible incident in the storage room, where Jungkook’s impulsive, frustrated shove had left Taehyung not just hurt but profoundly wounded. The physical sting of the push had long faded, but the memory remained, an unspoken weight that seemed to hang over both of them.

Jungkook replayed the moment over and over, his mind attempting to justify it. It was just a shove, he told himself. Nothing serious, right? But whenever he saw Taehyung’s quiet, withdrawn face in the hallways, the pang of regret hit him hard. Part of him wanted to apologize, but the words never came. Admitting fault would mean acknowledging he’d crossed a line, and that was something his pride wouldn’t allow.

But something else gnawed at him even more: Jimin.

Jungkook had noticed how, in his absence, Taehyung had found solace in Jimin’s presence. At first, it had seemed harmless—a new guy, friendly and kind, taking Taehyung under his wing. But now, every time he saw Taehyung and Jimin together, a dark jealousy flared in his chest, unsettling and fierce. He tried to brush it off as nothing, but it grew more consuming with each day.

The sight of them laughing by the lockers, sharing study notes, or sitting together in the cafeteria was too much. And after school? They’d play basketball in the campus court, their cheers and laughter echoing into the evening. Jimin seemed to effortlessly slip into every space Jungkook once held, and the jealousy burned deeper.

One evening, as Jungkook watched them from afar, laughing under the streetlights after one of their games, his fists clenched so tight his knuckles turned white. He hated how Jimin brought that easy smile to Taehyung’s face, hated how they seemed to share jokes and secrets now. A dangerous jealousy stirred inside him, one that he didn’t fully understand but couldn’t ignore.

One night, he found himself scrolling through his messages with Taehyung. Messages that were once filled with inside jokes, late-night confessions, and shared dreams now sat cold and empty. The last few texts Taehyung had sent were unread, unanswered—a visible mark of how he’d pushed him away. And yet, knowing this, he still couldn’t bring himself to apologize or bridge the gap.

The next day, Jungkook couldn’t contain his frustration. He found Taehyung and Jimin by the lockers, and something inside him snapped. He stormed over, his gaze sharp and unfriendly.

“Late night again, huh?” he said, his tone heavy with a forced casualness that barely masked the bitterness underneath. “Must be nice to hang out like that.”

Taehyung looked up, a mix of surprise and hurt flashing across his face. “Yeah, we had fun.” There was no malice in his voice, just honesty. But Jungkook could feel his jealousy prickling further.

Jimin glanced at Jungkook, sensing the tension. “You could join us sometime, if you wanted. Taehyung’s told me a lot about you.”

Jungkook’s eyes flickered with anger. He forced a tight smile, dismissing the offer with a scoff. “No thanks. I’ve got better things to do.”

The sharpness of his words landed like a slap, and he saw the slight flinch in Taehyung’s expression. It wasn’t enough to show on the surface, but Jungkook felt it—a subtle hurt that he’d caused, again. And yet, as he turned on his heel and walked away, the jealousy and anger were all-consuming.

He hated that Taehyung had stopped waiting for him, hated that someone else had stepped into his place. But he couldn’t stop, couldn’t break through his pride long enough to apologize or make things right.

And deep down, he knew—if he didn’t face his feelings soon, the regret might one day become a burden too heavy to bear.
