They always say I get my hopes up too high.
My expectations.
My wishes.
But is it really that much to ask for?
A "thanks" when I say "you're welcome",
returning a friendly smile,
offering a hand when somebody falls,
an apology if you bumped into them.
Not sighing in annoyance
when questions are asked,
granting waiters a tip,
saying "hey" and "goodbye".
Things that should be normal,
not something you hope for.
Tell me, what kind of world do we live in?
Where the smallest of gestures become a rarity?
How, oh how am I supposed
to keep my faith in humanity?
