MEGHNA~This man is pushing every one of my buttons! He calls me a brat, yet he acts like some overbearing dictator who won’t let me breathe without his approval. Thanks to his relentless interference, my carefully laid plans to meet Adam have completely fallen apart. I can only imagine what Adam must be thinking now—especially since I let it slip that I was single.
He probably thinks I'm playing games or, worse, that I’m unreliable. It’s frustrating, especially because I took a chance, finally worked up the nerve to message Adam, inviting him to meet me near the university since it’s our day off. I watched as he read the message, but he never replied. Just left me on "seen" without a word. The silence is unbearable. Did I do something wrong? Or is he upset over how yesterday unfolded?
And Agastya! The way he monitors my every move as if I’m some fragile prisoner. How am I even supposed to set foot outside the house without him asking endless questions and prying into every single detail of where I'm going and who I’m seeing? If only he wasn’t here, I could’ve come up with a quick excuse, snuck out, and met Adam without any trouble.
But no—because of Agastya and his constant meddling, I feel like I'm on the verge of losing all my friends, one by one. He doesn’t understand how isolating this is, how it chips away at every chance I have to live freely, to see the people I care about, to just be me without his shadow looming over everything.
Suddenly, my phone rang, and Hazel’s name flashed on the screen. Great—now she’s going to bombard me with a thousand questions. I took a deep breath, bracing myself, and answered.
“Hello?”
I greeted her, trying to keep my voice calm.
“Meghna, you broke my heart! That gorgeous man is your fiancé? Why didn’t you ever tell us?”
She exclaimed, her tone full of shock and surprise
I could practically feel her disbelief through the phone, and I knew this conversation was going to be anything but simple.
“It’s all really complicated, Hazel,”
I sighed.
“I’ll explain everything when we meet up.”
“Then meet me today at the club,”
She shot back immediately, her voice laced with excitement.
“We’re going for drinks, and Adam and a few friends are coming, too. I need every single detail! And I can’t believe I missed your little kiss in front of the college gate—everyone’s talking about it!”
She added, her tone teasing.
I could almost picture her smirk through the phone, knowing she wouldn’t let me off the hook until she got the whole story. Hazel was relentless when it came to gossip, and this was definitely prime material.
