Madelyn rolled over in the hospital bed, opening her eyes and yawning slightly. She rubbed her eyes, looking around at the bright, white room as she noticed Christian fast asleep in a chair next to the bed. "Christian." He didn't budge. She reached over and nudged his shoulder, lightly.

Christian opened his eyes and jumped up. "Maddie, you're awake." She nodded. He grabbed her hand and laced it with hers. "The doctors were waiting for you to wake, so they could talk to you about what happened."

Madelyn shook her head, confused. She furrowed her eyebrows. "What do you mean? I just got a little sick."

Before either of them could say anything more, the doctor walked in. He smiled as he walked over to Madelyn and held his hand out to her. "Miss Young. I've been waiting for you to wake up." Madelyn took his hand, shaking it lightly. His eyes averted from Madelyn to Christian. "I think we should have a word in private, Miss Young."

Madelyn smiled, shaking her head. "Whatever you have to say to me, you can say to him, too."

The doctor shoved his hands into his pockets. "Miss Young, we need to speak in private. I prefer to talk to my patients alone."

Christian nodded, standing as he looked down at Madelyn. He knew he had no choice but to leave the room. Madelyn would tell him everything later, anyway... Right?

3 months later

"You get to go home! You're all done, Miss Young." Her doctor had a wide grin on his face as the nurse prepared to take the IV out of Madelyn's hand.

Madelyn squealed when she saw her favorite male nurse walk in. She beamed up at him. "Rob, I get to go home!"

Rob dramatically sighed as if he was relieved and rolled his eyes. "Oh, thank god. I was getting sick of you."

They both laughed as she shoved him playfully. "Bullshit. You know you'll miss me."

He nodded. "You're right. You were a lot of fun these last few months. But I'm glad to hear your cancer is gone." She put her head down, a small smile on her lips. She was glad it was over, too. He cleared his throat, speaking up, again. "There is a Alex Burch here to see you?"

"Perfect timing." She looked up at Rob. "Let him in. I don't mind." She shifted in her bed, looking out the window. Today was exactly three months since she found out she had a tumor. An Ewing tumor to be exact. Which pretty much meant she had a tumor in her brain. It isn't usually common in adults, mostly children, but she was a special case. They were able to surgically remove the tumor, but then she had to do radiation. After radiation was over, she had to stay in the hospital for a week to make sure all of the cancer was gone and that she would be fine. Now, that was over and the doctors told her that there is only a ten percent chance the tumor could grow back. She was happy with those odds. Though she wish she would have known that the day she found out she had cancer; The day she told Christian she couldn't see him, anymore.

She didn't want him to have to put up with a woman that was dying. He wasn't going to put him through that. She was keeping tabs on him, though. She talked to Annie at least twice a week and she always asked Annie how Christian was doing. Annie always had the same answer. "He's hurting. But he'll be fine." Now, Madelyn was better and regretting the decision she had made with Christian.

Alex walked in and instantly bent down to hug Madelyn. "It's good to see you, again."

Madelyn laughed, embracing him. "You were just here yesterday. And the day before that. And the day before that." She laughed, gazing over at him. Since the day she ended up in the hospital, he had been visiting her everyday and, honestly, they had grown really close. She reached over and grabbed his hand in hers. She lightly traced a heart on the top of his hand, smiling down at it as she did. "I get to go home."
