YOU BROUGHT A WARM cup of coffee to your lips, taking a small sip while making eye contact with the pretty woman sitting in front of you. she had yet to touch her cappuccino, looking too nervous to do so with your presence after the events from last night.

sakanoshita cafe—how you absolutely loved this place. the cozy atmosphere, the aroma of freshly brewed coffee swarming the air, the walls filled with artwork and at this time of year, adorned with fall and thanksgiving decorations.

you sat at a table with kiyoko next to a window by the entrance.

"you know, kiyo, i'm not mad at you. i was never mad to begin with."

"oh." kiyoko fidgeted with her metal spoon, swirling it around in her cup of coffee, yet to even take a sip. "i assumed you were. i'm still so confused and hurt after ryu; truthfully, i don't even know if i really like hitoka, or if im just trying to replace this empty void in my heart. and what hurt me the most—i didn't know how'd you feel about me liking a woman. i didn't want you to think less of me, or even hate me, as silly as it sounds. we grew up together bonding over our interactions with men and then suddenly, i've changed and i just feel...weird. and ashamed."

you let her speak, yet you shook your head with her words. "absolutely not, kiyoko." you reassured her, reaching forward to take her hands in yours. "remember when we left for college? how excited you were to leave home, branch out, and find yourself?"

"yeah..."

"that's exactly what's happening now. there's nothing to be ashamed about kiyoko, this is all normal. things are changing and you're simply just trying to explore who you are." you smiled, "sure—walking in on you guys definitely caught me off guard, but never for a second did i ever think less of you, baby."

your thoughtful words brought kiyoko to tears as she used her sleeve to wipe her cheek.

you continued, "i promise kiyoko, you will always be number one in my heart, and nothing will ever change that. i couldn't be more happy that you've discovered this side of yourself and i assure you that i'll be here supporting you, right by your side for every step of the journey."

"i can't tell you how much that means to me—how much you mean to me, y/n." kiyoko exhaled softly, regaining her composure, "it's been so hard trying to keep it a secret, but i knew i wasn't ready to tell anyone yet. it's only been like two weeks since ryu and i broke it off, but i just have these feelings for hitoka..."

"i wanted to talk to you about that." you took another sip of your coffee, "you know i'm always on your side, kiyo, but i care about you. part of the reason why i reacted the way i did is because i know exactly how you're feeling. especially after ryu and everything, emotions are high and it feels like you don't really know what you're doing. but please take your time and don't rush into things. make sure that you're ready to trust someone again and don't get into a relationship before you're a hundred percent about that person...it just sucks being on the other end of things, if you know what i mean."

kiyoko nodded, taking your advice into account. "absolutely. thank you so much, y/n." she finally took a sip from her coffee cup that was completely full. "gosh, what did i do to deserve a best friend like you? i love you so much."

"now, set a timer for thirteen minutes." keiji akaashi placed the rack of pumpkin spice cookies you made from scratch in the oven, shutting the door and then looking up at you with his cheesy yet beautiful smile.

"got it." you unlocked his phone and tapped a few buttons before setting it back down on the counter. you felt his presence as he approached you from behind, wrapping his arms around your waist,

"y/n, you're so beautiful."

oh how you loved keiji's spontaneous yet meaningful compliments, making you feel like the luckiest girl in the world. you smiled in his embrace, turning your head to press a gentle kiss on his lips. "keiji—i love you."

"i love you too, sweet girl."

he twirled you around and brought you face-to-face with his dark blue eyes that gazed down at you so lovingly. he pressed another kiss on your lips before backing away to take a seat on top of the counter.

you took a seat right next to him, resting your head on his shoulder as he grabbed his phone and unlocked it. you closed your eyes and took in the fresh scent of pumpkin spice that filled the room.

the contentment running through your veins was indescribable. you couldn't have been happier— not only having your boyfriend here by your side with warm cookies being created in the oven, your life at the moment was completely and utterly perfect.

you met keiji akaashi at the beginning of your last year in high school. you were introduced to him by kiyoko at one of your school's volleyball games. despite keiji being on the opposite team, kiyoko thought you'd make an amazing couple,

and as you sat here next to him in his apartment, you couldn't help but admit she was absolutely right.

keiji received a phone call which caused him to suddenly hop down from the counter. "i'm going to take this really quickly." he didn't wait for your response as he stepped outside onto the balcony, shutting the door.

you didn't think anything of it as you reached over to grab your phone. you began scrolling through your apps. and you scrolled.

continued to scroll.

and scrolled for what seemed like another ten minutes before you began to grow concerned. you watched as the boy paced back and forth on the balcony, worrisome look on his face. you came down from the counter and approached the door.

he was too engrossed in the phone call to even notice your presence as you pushed it slightly open,

"i know. its—baby. mhm."

baby? who is he talking to?

"baby, you know we can't do this anymore. i miss you too...it's just—come on, kotaro. i know. don't make it harder than it has to be."

kotaro...who the fuck?

"keiji?" you called out his name, making the boy jump.

"we'll talk about this later, i'm sorry." he immediately hung up, sliding his phone back in his pocket. "y/n baby, whats up?"

"i...who was that?"

"oh, no one. it was just volleyball stuff." he let out a stressed exhale, turning around to look at you with a apprehensive expression on his face. "it was nothing."

"are you sure?"

"promise, baby." it looked as if he was attempting to find a way to switch the subject before realization set in. "fuck—the cookies..."

"keiji! the timer was on your phone—fuck!"

"keiji! the timer was on your phone—fuck!"
